GET HAPPY
Music by: Harold Arlen Lyrics by: Ted Koehler
Homefront: A vocal version of 'Get Happy' accompanied a sequence at the end of the episode 'Shabbat Shalom' which showed Al Kahn in his new job as a short-order cook at the Purl Roadhouse, Abe and Gloria putting a sign up announcing that Rupert's cafe was to open 7 days a week (because they had quit their jobs as the Sloan's domestics) and a cop, who had previously scared away the Abe and Gloria's customers, coming back to Ruperts with his wife and 2 small boys in tow.
The Song: 'Get Happy' was Harold Arlen's first published song. He originally wrote it in 1930 as a piano warming-up exercise. Since then it has been performed by many artists, including Ruth Etting and Judy Garland in the movie musical 'Summer Stock'.
Lyrics: Pack up your troubles and just get happy Ya better chase all your cares away Sing Hallelujah, c'mon get happy Get ready for the judgment day The sun is shinin', c'mon get happy The Lord is waiting to take your hand Shout Hallelujah, c'mon get happy We're goin' to the Promised Land We're headin' 'cross the river Gonna wash our sins in the tide It's all so peaceful On the other side Forget your troubles and just get happy Ya better chase all your cares away Sing Hallelujah, c'mon get happy Get ready for the judgment day
