Updates Summary

NEW

TreeView

  • GoDeep/Don'tGoDeep option
  • Alias folders can expand and show its contents.
  • "Display option" for 32x32-pixel normal icon view.

GridView

  • Multiple cell selection in GridView. Command+Click to add/remove a cell to the selection. Shift+Click to extend the selection. All the commands in "Selection" menu and GridView's context menu work on the multiple selection.
  • Shortcut keys for "Open by application XX(i.e. Photoshop)". Use F5 to F9.
  • You can specify the font, font size, background color, show-edge option.
  • Added "GridView"-"Show"-"options..." to choose the text information to appear in the cells. You can also select from overlap/no overlap with the image.

Drag & Drop File manipulation

  • You can drag the multiple selection in GridView/TreeView and drop them onto the Finder or the other applications that accept file drop. Drop onto a Finder's window or desktop to move the files. Drop onto a Finder's window or desktop holding option key to copy the files. Drop onto the Finder's trash to trash the files. Dragging from TreeView only applies to the hit row framed yellow not the entire selection. Hold the command AND option keys to make an Alias file.
  • You can also drop the files onto the TreeView's folder.

Rotate view

  • You can rotate the image in a GridView cell, an image window and Slideshow. Use the imageWin menu, shortcut (command+[, command+]) , or click on the left/right side of the image as the cursor is "Rotate cursor".

Printing

  • Printing GridView (Thumbnails).
  • Please take a look at NattaWorks new printing software, "SmoothPrint". You can drop PhotoGrid images onto the SmoothPrint "paper" and layout them freely.

Image windows

  • The old "Simple window" AND the new "Scroll Window" are supported. On the recent models of Macs with ATI Rage GPU, the ScrollWindow menu shows up. It is GPU accelerated on redraw, zoom, scroll, rotate. ScrollWindows are slower to open than SimpleWindows and the number of windows you can open may be limited.
    Shortcut for opening ScrollWindow: DoubleClick the cell holding the option key. Or select cells and hit the return key holding the option key
  • Mouse usage in the ScrollWindow:
    Shift + drag : scroll contents
    Option + drag (up/down) : Zoom in/out
    Command + drag : Rotate
  • Keyboard usage in the ScrollWindow:
    Shift + arrowkey : scroll contents
    Option + arrowkey : Zoom in/out
    Command + arrowkey : Rotate
  • ImageWindows can be resized by dragging any corner.
  • "ImageWin" menu in the menu bar
  • You can command+drag the ImageWindow behind the other windows.

More

  • Supports Wheel mouse scrolling.
  • Exif tag support for Exif/JPEG and DCF files : most of the digital camera saves images in this format. Some camera supports none or only part of it. Note that if you edit the file with Photoshop and so on, the Exif tags will be lost.
    - Show ShootDate,time in GridView
    - Sort by ShootDate,time
    - InfoArea shows ShootDate, time, camera maker, camera name, exposure time, F number.
    - Preview optionally can utilize the Exif preview that is embedded in the JPEG file.

CHANGE

  • "FavoriteFolderAliases" folder was moved to HOME/Library/Preferences/PhotoGridFavoriteFolders.
  • 640x480 screen is not supported. Some dialogs don't fit in it.
  • "Go up" button above TreeView was removed.
  • The shortcut for "Start Manual Slideshow" was changed from Cmd+M to Cmd+S. Cmd+M minimizes the front window now (OS X regular).
  • The shortcut for "Trash(Delete) the selection" was changed from Cmd+D to Cmd+del. You can also use Cmd+D if you like (check the preference dialog).
  • In TreeView's context menu and GridView's context menu, "TreeView" submenu and "GridView" submenu are removed.

- "DesktopVolumes" startup option
- "32 bit buffer" option in "misc" pref. More precise colors to render images. Make sure your monitor setting is "million colors" when you use "32 bit buffer".

BUG FIX
- Supports SANYO's digital camera files.
- Some 8 bit color files were rendered incorrect.
CHANGE
- When you go up the hierarchy in TreeView, the selection outside the current tree don't go away now.
NEW
- Drop onto the folders in TreeView to move the files. Hold the option key to copy as always.
- Drop holding Command+Option keys makes "Alias file". See the cursor shape change.
- Some operations are faster than before. "Show image file", "Change TreeView font" etc.

BUG FIX
- TreeView now scrolls continuously by drag-select.
- Trashing the last image in GridView made a crash.
- The menu bar disappeared in Slideshow when all the images in GridView are corrupt.
NEW
- There are the "killing" JPEG files that make PhotoGrid and others crash. They have invalid data. Now PhotoGrid checks the validity before displaying them. Note that this has a side effect. PhotoGrid regards a very few JPEG files as invalid though they are valid. Let me know if all your digital camera files are regarded as invalid.

- You can resize the Simple image window from the ImageWin menu.

- Added the file size info to the info area.
- On the recent models of Macs with ATI Rage GPU, the ScrollWindow menu shows up.
It is GPU accelerated on redraw, zoom, scroll, rotate.
Limiations:
- It is highly depending on the GPU you have. You may have to turn on the "iMac
RevB compatible mode" in the Pref dialog/Misc.
- You need MacOS 9.1 or later (OpenGL1.2).
- Classic environment on OS X is not supported.
- In some environments, 32K color mode gives worse image quality than million
color mode.
- Number of windows you can open depends on the GPU internal resource state,
not on the memory you give to PhotoGrid.
- PhotoGrid memory usage seems to increase in Finder's About This Mac dialog
as you open more ScrollWindows. This is the normal behavior.
Usage:
- Use ImageWin menu.
- Mouse drag:
Shift + drag : scroll contents
Option + drag (up/down) : Zoom in/out
Command + drag : Rotate

<Change>
- "Reload" now reloads the image from file, not from cache. If you edit the image
with another application, you can use reload to have the modification in PhotoGrid.

<Bug fix>
- Mouse slipping on cell resizing sometimes froze.
- ver 2.2 couldn't accept cell size specification in the pref dialog. (crashed)
- Cell width/height display in Print layout dialog were wrong.

how to start editing:
- Click on the name and move the mouse cursor out of the field.
- or Click on the name and stay 1 second.
- or Control+Click and use "Rename" context menu.
Note that the arrow keys works on the editing field while editing not on GridView.
Use Command+arrowKeys to work on GridView.
- "Go Deep" in TreeView menu. Turn it off if you don't want to dig deep in the folders.
- "Display option" in TreeView menu. 32x32 pixel normal icon size is available now.
- You can choose how the mouse works in TreeView. Go to "Preference"-"TreeView".
