Greetings and welcome to Macintosh Garden. The interest for abandonware is increasing everyday. One reason is that the emulators keep getting better and there are quite a few great emulators that runs the MacOS. Another reason is that people realize that all these new "cool" 3D games already have been made. And usually the original is more fun to play. :)

The Macintosh Garden is an abandonware games archive, dedicated in particular to supporting the Macintosh computer platform. A notable feature of Macintosh Garden is its emphasis on game emulation, encouraging users to run historical and in some cases genre-defining games, on modern systems.
Games featured on the Macintosh Garden have been discontinued by their publishers and are no longer commercially available. The Macintosh Garden aims to preserve these games for future generations, providing documentation and downloads of the original game files. With respect to copyright, non-qualifying games are removed upon request and a link to the games purchase page is provided.
The website is primarily a wiki, allowing contributors to upload game files, screenshots and edit game descriptions and other details. Anonymous user ratings are allowed, however user registration is required to comment or download. Games are categorised by genre, year, author and publisher.
Originally founded in 2001, by the year 2007 the archive counted at over 900 games and 6960 user comments. Throughout this time the site was hosted by Home of the Underdogs until late 2008 when the host went bankrupt. The Macintosh Garden has recently been relaunched and plans are underway to preserve the archive itself with the University of Portsmouth's KEEP Project

i added blue label power emulator to the site and the download is listed at 0.00 MB and the download link didnt work when i tested it. what could be wrong?
EDIT: nevermind, i scrolled down this page to find the 'broken links' solution and did the "reupload" thing and now it works fine. thanks for your help and enjoy this fine app!
Couldn't find MacSNMP after wading through myriads of links … is it lost?
There are tons of spammers here! WE NEED ADMINS!
I am glad to see Mac garden is back from the ashes
Someone should download a copy of the install binaries and manual for this software from here: http://www.stairways.com/main/netpresenz as they have announced it be free on that page (as of June 24, 2005) and provided a download link. They should put it up on here, and they might want to get the french, german, and japanese editions too if the files aren't huge.
Someone should add reCAPTCHA to the registration process, it might help prevent some of the spam.

The Internet Archive http://www.archive.org/ also seems to store http (rather than ftp or other) linked files up to about 3MB. This is a real lifesaver if you're looking for old patches or updates.
Hey folks I found this cool site called the wayback machine. I know this idea has limited use but if you need pictures of software and such you may be able to find them by searching old archived websites that had... cnet... apple and such check it out... web.archive.org
There is a video of Valve's Steam service running on Mac! see final post here -http://macintoshgarden.org/forum/valves-steam-coming-mac
We seem to get a bit of spam, don't we? A pity, really. Some people have not much else to do.
Yep, we're doing our best...
Help balorg! Evil spammers!!!!
Or is it Apple_IIGS user?
Please help destroy the spam
Classilla 9.0.4 had some rendering quirks with this very site on the home page where those big screenshots were, but the 9.1 update fixed that. Now I actually don't mind OS 9 too much for Web browsing. (It still needs the NoScript interface to act more like the Firefox version, though.)
Also using Mac OS 9.2.2, but on a Pismo PowerBook G3.
I would interested the Virtual PC 2.1.1 CD ISO file.
Just realized though, that uploading to this website is buggy and might be impossible under that particular setup.
Does Classilla work better than Mozilla? I use Mozilla 1.1 under Mac OS 9.2.2.
Why not using Classilla for OS 9 web browsing? I suppose it's the best solution we have right now and it works great with the Mac Garden. (http://www.floodgap.com/software/classilla/)
Hey yall, I know there was talk from some posters that the site isn't compatible enough for older browsers, you folks that are having this problem should try out the download for IE 5.5. The read-me says that it will support some system 7 versions + 8 and 9. If you do download it get it from the mega download link, I had errors with the page link. When you install run the MS self-repair and everything went pretty smooth after that, try it out you may like it.. I'm running 9.0.4.... it was buggy at first but after a few restarts and running the MS repair it seems to work fine... actually better than IE 5, it'll show you the garden in a better light if it works for you.
I stumbled across this bit whilst doing a research project on the DMCA, and it seems to help define the gray area of "warez" on this site:
"Computer programs and video games distributed in formats that have become obsolete and that require the original media or hardware as a condition of access, when circumvention is accomplished for the purpose of preservation or archival reproduction of published digital works by a library or archive. A format shall be considered obsolete if the machine or system necessary to render perceptible a work stored in that format is no longer manufactured or is no longer reasonably available in the commercial marketplace. (A renewed exemption, first approved in 2003.)"
I'd say that Macintosh Garden would constitute an "archive" seeking the "preservation" of classic Macintosh games and programs.
Does anyone know if there is a version of Fly! for Mac that is abandonware?
Sorry Balrog, I'll use the forums in future. I use the recent changes page as my start page!
@themacmeister:
Can you keep this kind of discussion in the forums, please? It's a lot easier to find things there.
Or, if you have something to upload, make a page for it? Same reasons
And yes, MachTen is still sold; I'm not sure about the 68K version though, so that one might be ok.
I have a cracked PC version of Boogaloopers (identical to the Mac version). Does anyone know if a working serial number or crack exists for the Mac version?
I know this will probably be deleted immediately, but one of the finest PC games ever (from 1999) now has a Mac version. Minimum OSX 10.2.8

@Balrog - Even the 68k version? wouldn't be selling many copies of THAT!!?!??
@themacmeister:
MachTen would be warez; it's still sold.
I was going to post MachTen 4.01 Root directory (stuffed), but macgui has 4.1.1 Installer.
See link a few posts down for site URL.
We already have, long time ago some one posted that site here...somewhere
OMFG - check this site out - http://www.macgui.com/downloads/?cat_id=56
A massive archive of new(ish) and v.old stuff for Mac. Incredible. They should be affiliated with Macintosh Garden.
You can find color Dark Castle still for sale here: http://www.deltatao.com/products.html
EDIT: Or at least it was, anyway. I would try sending them an e-mail, you're sure to get a reply. Or you can go with this: http://www.superhappyfunfun.com/games/gam_returntodc.html
I spent my day looking for the Color version of Dark Castle and the serial for Softwindows 1.0.3 or the softwindows 1.0.2 installer but i couldn't find any of those three lol, if anyone has info on that i will greatly appreciate it! Thankz
Even the manuals will sell
I added games:
Dirt Bike 2.1 (B&W)
NSX Racing (Racing Days)
and I added apps:
Toner Tuner 1.0.6
Personal Backup 1.2.3
Enjoy
sorry bertyboy,
I only meant the MANUALS, not the computers... they are pretty slim manuals too (being Apple computers, they don't need to be huge). They hold a lot of nostalgia value for me now, so I might keep them on display in the bookcase...
They'll sell.
Here (UK) eMac G4s go for £10.
I missed a Colour Classic yesterday that went for £31 - I bid £30 and was prepared to bid up to £60.
And an old PM4400/200 with monitor last night, that I thought no-one else would bid on - I bid £25, starting at 99p, but it went for £70.
I bid on 9 Mac items yesterday, won nothing - but that's what happens on Saturday/Sunday. Four items to bid on today.
So, yes, it'll sell.
I recently found both the LC630 Dos Compatible, and PowerMacintosh 7300 user manuals from my old systems. Do these still have any value to anyone? I was thinking of throwing them, and then thought I could make thousands $$$ on eBay
well... maybe not thousands.
Danger Swamps 3.5 tested, stuffed and uploaded! only 20.5Kb
I uploaded Pagemaker 6.5.2. Please don't start a flame war, or take it down immediately.
PM 6.52 is no longer being sold, and cannot be used in all honesty, for creating print-ready high-end artwork (unless you are very very patient, and have Adobe PrePrint Pro, and separator). Pagemaker 7.0 was superceded by InDesign 1.0, which is up to at least version 6.0 now - that will give you some idea how awfully OLD this application is.
I have managed to recover Danger Swamps 3.5. If I can get DDexpand to decompress the bl**dy thing, I will upload it tonight/tomorrow.
Home of the Underdogs is back online, and all files have been recovered and relinked
http://hotud.org/
In another words, I've noticed that re-uploading the application fixes most broken links. YMMV.
EDIT: Oftentimes, the file will be placed in the http://macintoshgarden.org/sites/macintoshgarden.org/files/ folder but link to the http://s3.amazonaws.com/macgarden/ folder. In those cases, just copy the link from when you upload the file and post it in the description.
Yes MacinTricks , it is very good way . I make that very often
That procedure did not work for me, unfortunately. However, not a bad way to do it if a user is really desperate to get a program; just choose "edit the page", and download the file.
I've been noticing a lot of broken links on this site, lately. To fix most, sign in and go to "Edit this page" on the page of the broken application or game. Scroll down until you see the application file and SAVE it to your hard drive. Then click the remove button, re-upload it and scroll down further until you see "save". Click save to save your changes, then note your fix in the comments.
@MacinTricks You are so right about the Basic HTML Look! I would love to access Macintoshgarden from my old Macs without having a pain in the butt to download it first to my Modern Mac and then Go through all the things just to get the game on the old machine.
I just added two GUI apps for preferences editing for SheepShaver OSX (under Emulators).
If you believe they should not be included here, please delete them. They are so difficult to find tho, that I think they deserve a place here (but without SheepShaver - there should be a current link to the Full-Screen Universal Binary build of Dec 2009. Could someone perhaps add a link in the comments?
Somewhere about 1 600. That´s for the games alone.
Jusr a theory on the reason all our uploads are missing from amazonaws.com. I looked through the XML for the site, it appears that it can hold a maximum of 1000 entries. How many games and apps does the site have now ?
I have almost all versions of RamDoubler and a few RamCharger. Getting them installed from Disk Images is almost impossible, you may need to revert to an ACTUAL FLOPPY DISK!!!
OS9 is surely out, although I may have a SINGLE VERSION of RD that works with 9.0/9.1? If you are happy with 8.6 (which works with CarbonLib I believe - so even runs carbonised OSX apps!) then you should be OK. There are hacks out there to triple/quadruple or even quintuple your RAM - so I hope you have a reasonable amount to start with. I was impressed with RealPC's speed over VPC, although I did not use the speed hacks and tips available. You can email me at crai...@gmail.com and we can discuss how to help you out. I only have MacOS 9.2 so I cannot test anything here
Any ETA on the server update? It was "within a few weeks" as of December 9th, certainly you must be getting close.
Later versions dropped it, unfortunately.
I remember playing Monkey Islands 3 with it, the bottom quarter of the screen showing static picts (renewed after alt key pressing), rest of the screen regularly animated.
Now playing MI3 w/ScummVM...
