About the Macintosh Garden

Update 21 April: Trixter has generously uploaded all the original game files from the old Macintosh Garden. David has uploaded the vieuxmac archive aswell as some other rare titles. We need your help to enter these games into this new website. Please download a game and then upload it to Macintosh Garden. You're help is greatly appreciated!

What's going on here then?

This is the new Mac Garden website, we're still in early days - so please report any bugs you find in the garden. Below we have the plan of attack, anyone is welcome to help out. For more information please visit our google group and subscribe: http://groups.google.com/group/macintoshgarden

Step #1

Is to upload around 900 games to this new website. Your help is appreciated, myself and a few others have discs with the old games on them (Or you may have games backed up on your computer already). If you can spare the time and brain power, please ask us for a copy and have a go at uploading a few games. This website is a wiki so it's easy to upload a game or edit an existing title. Just create an account and then log in to have access to the 'Add Game' link. Please see this page for a list of games uploaded so far.

Step #2

Play the games! We just need to make sure everything's working. Explore this website, test out the comments, edit game descriptions etc.

Step #3 : Guides

The guides section of the site is a wiki as well. The guides will hopefully make it a lot easier for people with new macs and without the technical know how, the ability to play these fantastic old games! We need volunteers to help write a few how to guides, or put in links to others on the net. Head over to the guides section.

If there's enough demand for it, I'm willing to work on a forum section for this website. Any other feature requests or comments. send an email to [email protected]

Website To Do

- Upload 900 games Update: 300 uploaded so far (see the list of games uploaded so far)
- Add descriptions and other information
- Upload screenshots for all games
- "Top 10" list on the front page, as well as the "Highest rated"

Be careful when falling off any high ledges in the hexen games, it can cause the computer to crash! :/

@ Maedi: So we are going to have a forum AND we will be able to upload CD images? :'-) There should be more webmasters like you. Seriously.

@ phreakindee: I forgot to mention that I already tried to apply the patch, but it doesn't goes through. The message window says, "An error prevented the update from completing. Resource has been modified. (dont 1000)." I thought that meant the game came already patched. Does it runs on your machine?

UPDATE: I decompressed the file with StuffIt Expander 5.5 (which I donwloaded from this site) and everything's fine. The first time around I decompressed it with version 7.0.3, so it was a backward-incompatibility problem.

Regarding Duke Nukem 3D Atomic: You must install the 1.2 [k] patch, which is included, in order to play the game once unpacked, otherwise it will ask for the CD.

Okay, I see we won't be able to escape the need for a forum. I might cook one up, but first on the list will be the 60MB upload limit. Give me a few days on this, and then you will be able to upload larger files.

MacWise, welcome! Thanks for the hexen: death kings expansion... I have been going through my cds and whatever else Ive collected over the years, uploaded a fair bit already. Yeah shame about the 60mb limit eh? There is soo much great stuff out there.

Let me introduce myself. The name's MacWise and I'm glad this site is back from the dead. Hope it stays that way.

I moved the Hexen expansion pack Deathkings of the Dark Citadel from the old repository to this server. Enjoy.

I downloaded Duke Nukem 3D, but when I double-clicked on it, I got a message asking for the CD. The file in question is not a CD image, so I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas?

I also want to know if there is a way to work around the 60 MB upload limit, such as splitting a large file into chunks? Most of my stuff won't fit into a 60 MB file.

And finally, yeah, this place needs a forum.

If anyone has a classic version of Final Draft or another screenwriting app for Mac OS 7.x, please please upload! There are absolutely no screenwriting applications for classic Macs anywhere - not even for sale.

Would it be possible to let games be have multiple categories (Glider Pro, for example, is filed under "flight sim"; maybe accurate, maybe not, but it would be nice to find it under both flight and arcade, which is more accurate)

Nice site, glad to see it back for my old mac. Does anybody have a copy of a game called Smile - The Splattering, where you shoot a smiley face with guns, a laser, microwave etc, and Command & Conquer for Macs?

I believe it's very easy to use stuffit in Basilisk, wich is a 68k emulator. It's quick and runs on anything unixish. That's how i make my sit files.

Thank you thank you thank you for reviving this site! I had just downloaded dozens of my favorite games of yesteryear when my harddrive crashed and I lost them all :(
