Cowboys were once rulers of the West. They could go about as they pleased, and they needed nothing but
the open air and a sturdy horse. But
after the invention of the barbed wire fence, the cowboy’s life changed
completely. They were no longer able to
go as they pleased throughout the west.
The west became tame, and so developed that much of the cowboy’s roaming
lands were gone completely. But the
cowboy’s image never really changed completely. The creation of westerns in the film business forever idolized
the cowboys as the defenders of the west that we know and love.

Even
though much of the cowboys’ land was taken away, there are still many cowboys
today. Western apparel has become very
popular, and western riding has actually become a type of sport. But even though true cowboys are hard to find,
