Being an art, since some texts "will require not only the craft of good language skills and research technique but also the art of good writing, cultural sensitivity and communication" (from Wikipedia, Common Misconceptions), my work is primarily focused on the two most important success criteria in translation: Faithfulness and Transparency.
Being faithful, the translation will accurately render the meaning of the source text; and being transparent, it will equally appear to have been written in a native language.
* Administrative translation: the translation of administrative texts.
* Commercial translation: this category may include marketing and promotional materials directed to consumers.
* Computer translation: The translation of computer programs and related documents (manuals, help files, web sites).
* General translation: the translation of "general" texts.
* Legal translation: the translation of legal documents (laws, contracts, treaties, personal certificates, wills, diplomas, patents, agreements, etc.).
* Literary translation: the translation of literary works (novels, short stories, plays, poems, articles, etc.)
* Medical translation: the translation of works of a medical nature.
* Pedagogical translation: translation of educational texts (manuals, books, projects, etc.)
* Scientific translation: The translation of scientific texts.
* Scholarly translation: the translation of specialized texts written in an academic environment.
* Technical translation: the translation of technical texts (manuals, instructions, etc.).
* Translation for dubbing and film subtitling: dialogues and narrations of feature movies and foreign TV programs.
