+Homework Wall of Fame - Students who have no missing or late homework
assignments for the entire academic quarter will be able to write thier name on this
bulletin board. Work missed due to school absence is not counted as late so long as
it is completed and returned by the agreed upon date. Having all homework
assignments turned in for the entire quarter will also qualify the student for
homework passes that may be used in future grading periods.
+Most Improved Students - This list is designed to honor those students who have
displayed significant effort towards improving thier grade in social studies.
Progress is evaluated at the end of each quarter and grades are compared to
previous quarters, or perhaps to an interim grade. This award is highly subjective
and based in large part on the attitude and work ethic displayed by the student.
Students must earn at least a "C" to qualify for Most Improved Student honors.
+Waaaall of Faaaame - This award is reserved for the most exclusive students. Only
those earning straight "A"'s for the entire year of social studies will be honored on
this bulletin board. Students must earn four consecutive "A"'s, minuses or pluses
do not disqualify students. What matters is the letter grade.
+Outstanding Social Studies Student - Each social studies teacher at McDowell has the
opportunity to present students with a certificate for outstanding work in the
subject. These certificates are handed out at the awards ceremony on the last day
of school. Grade, attendance, work ethic, and attitude are all considered when
deciding which students may qualify for this honor.
