GREEK GODS AND LEGENDS PROJECTS 2007
Step 1 You will choose a Greek god/goddess and a related Greek legend. It is best to pick a few that
interest you in case you have difficulty finding information or end up with a double.
Step 2 You will begin to research your topic. There is a great deal of information on these topics in any library (including the McDowell Library) and on the internet. You will be using BOTH books and internet resources (2 books and 1 internet source). You must keep a list of your sources for a
bibliography. Make
sure that this includes the accurate web page address or book title, the
author, page numbers, and dates.
Step 3 Take notes from your sources as you research them. Photocopies of pages and printed websites
are NOT considered notes. Notes are in your words and writing. You will need some paper and
a pencil to record the most valuable information from each source. Pay close attention to what you see and read so that you only record the most useful information that you find.
Step 4 Using your sources and your notes you will write one (1) two page research paper. The paper
will be on your god/goddess & the legend. God/goddess information should include appearance,
family, major events, responsibilities, temples, city-states, etc. Do NOT simply retell the legend. You should include information related to the moral of the legend (what lesson does it teach) and about any characters in it. A brief summary of the legend should be enough to make your reader familiar with the story (1 paragraph). Information on the role of legends in ancient Greek religion and history would also be appropriate.
Step 5 You will need to create a prop for this project. A prop is something that you will use to help
explain your topic to your classmates. Examples of props would include, but are not limited to,
costumes, posters, dioramas, models, charts, artwork, video reenactments, etc…
Step 6 You will present your paper to the class. Presentation order will be randomly determined so you
will need to be ready for the first day of scheduled presentations.
