Mr. Lytles 8th Grade Social Studies Page
The 8th grade social studies curriculum at McDowell Exchange School is focused on American history.  The time period includes everything from pre-columbian Native America up to and including the American Civil War.  The class focuses on geography and how it impacts American history, as well as how our history impacts our present situation.  American government is also a key topic discussed during this year.  8th grade students are expected to have a well developed level of organization and to be both aware of, and involved in, thier education.  Socially, students should be tolerant and respectful of others, while simulataneously developing a strong sense of who they are as an individual.  Knowledge and skills (both social and academic) will be polished in preparation for the jump into high school.
