AP Physics Chapter 23,24 Take Home Test

Show your work clearly and box your answers.

1.  A charge of 10 mC is located at the origin, while a 15 mC charge is located at coordinates x = 1.3 m, y = 2.1 m.  a) What forces are required to hold these charges in place? b) At what location in space is the electric field zero?  c) Draw the electric field lines around these charges.

2, A charged bead with a mass of 3 g is injected into a uniform electric field E = 4.00 x 104 N/C j (meaning up).  The bead’s initial velocity is 16 m/s i.  If the observed acceleration of the bead is -2.3 m/s j and the bead moves through the field for 3.8 s, a) what is the charge on the bead?  b) What is the beads final velocity?

3.  A 45 cm radius insulated sphere is charged so that the volume charged density is a function of the radius: r= (34mC/m4)r.  a) Integrate to determine the total charge on the sphere.  Use Gauss’s Law to determine b) the electric field at r = 60 cm, and  c) the electric field at r = 30 cm.

4.  Pg. 735 # 54, but change the angle to 20˚.

5.  Pg. 757 #26, but change the radius to 9.00 cm.

6.  Pg. 758 #44, but change the 8.00 μC charge to 13.00 μC.
