dam -
a wall-like structure used to control the flowing current of a river

penetrate - soak through, get into, or pierce through.

mouth - the end of the river that opens into a larger body of water

head - the beginning or source of a river

erosion - the carrying away of soil by wind and rain

delta - a body of land at the mouth of a river formed by deposited/eroded land

canyon - a deep valley with steep sides

valley - a lowland are between two mountains

tributary - one or more small rivers that flow off the main river

flood plain - a lowland area that is completely covered with water

absorb - to soak into something that is dry

saturated - completely soaked, unable to hold anymore water

drainage basin - all of the land drained by a river and its tributaries

stream channel - the path along which a river travels

run off - excess water that is not absorbed into the cliff (collection) lake or pond

force - pushing power of a strong current

slope - a downhill angled plane

graduated cylinder - a container used in science to measure volume of liquids, in ml

estuary (mouth) - a semi-enclosed coastal body of water with one or more rivers flowing into it.

current - is the flow of water influenced by gravity as the water moves downhill to reduce its potential energy.

observation - an act of recognizing and noting a fact or occurrence often involving measurement with instruments or your senses.
