Casimir Effect in the Presence of Metamaterials

I am investigating the effects that the presence of metamaterials would have on the Casimir force. The Casimir force depends on several factors: the objects' constitutive parameters, geometry, temperature, etc., and may even become repulsive, for particular geometries or particular combinations of constitutive parameters. One reason why I am excited about this topic is that, at the practical level, the Casimir forces have been identified, with their companion van der Waals forces, as the primary cause for the collapse of nanoscale devices. These investigations may lead, among other things, to novel ways of effective shielding at the nanoscale.

Other Quantum Electrodynamical Effects

I am planning to extend my studies of the Casimir effect in the presence of metamaterials to other QED  effects such as the dynamical Casimir effect, Scharnhorst effect, etc.
