Derailed tank wagon cause hazardous chemical spill


Picture - 25 KBBefore the hazmat worker is ready to enter the accident area he/she is putting on a Chemical Protection Suit (Hazmat Suit), which type of suit to use in the actual situation, is depending of the chemicals which is involved in the accident, in this accident the worked uses a Trellchem® TS suit, a suit resistant to almost any type of chemicals.Picture - 16 KB The gloves is made of Butyl rubber with a coating of Viton®. The SCBA is a PA-80 type apparatus from Dräger, with a 7 liters 200 bar tank and a Panorama Nova Mask. Picture - 15 KBAfter the suit is properly donned, and double checked for leaks, the workers is ready to go in. In this equipment he's able to stay in the area in about 20-25 min.
In the back, the Tank Rail wagon which was derailed, is laying on the side, and some of the chemicals was spilled on the ground.

Picture - 28 KBWhen the time is out, the workers is called back for decontamination by water, the suit is doffed and the worker takes a rest.
