Hood & Neck -
The two most used materials for Hoods
and Neck seals are Latex or Neoprene. The
Latex-hood, also called a dry-hood, seals around
the divers face and if used, around a Full Face
Mask.
The
Neoprene-hood is not complete dry but semi-dry,
the Neoprene hood have a better insulation than
the latex-hood, under which a kind of insulation-hood
is necessary if used to dive in cold water.
The hood can be either
loose or permanently attached to the suit. A
loose neoprene hood can be used in combination
with both a neoprene or Latex Neck seal, a loose
latex-hood must always be used in combination
with a latex neck seal with neck-ring, like the
Viking Combi System.
If
the suit is used for diving in cold-water, a
permanently attach hood is the best choice,
its seals completely to the suit, and there
cant get water into the hood from the joint
of the hood and neck seal. The loose latex-hood
is also complete dry used with neck ring.
Commercial
divers who dives in contaminated or in other way dirty water,
normally use latex-hoods, either the loose or
fixed one, a special hood, the Viking Turbo Hood,
is made of the suit-material, with a
latex-sealing around the face, gives the diver
the best protection in contaminated water, if the
Turbo Pro hood isn't sufficient, the diver can
use a hard hat helmet.
The most used combination on today's drysuit, is
a latex-neck seal in combination with a loose
neoprene hood.
- Hard Hat Yokes -
When diving with a light
hardhat helmet, a normal neck seal can be used,
if used with a yoke and neck dam, the neck dam
seals round the divers neck and the helmet is
attached to the yoke. The suit can also be
equipped with a fixed helmet yoke, this type
seals the helmet and the suit together, and
making a complete tight suit, which can be a
important factor when diving in dirty or
contaminated water.
