In 1965, Harry Davis graduated from Southside High School in Blairs, VA. He entered the U.S. Army in 1967 and attended Personnel Specialist School in Fort Knox, KT and also completed an advanced course in Personnel Management in Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. After serving a tour during the Vietnam Conflict in 1968-1969 as a Personnel Specialist and Clerk with an Air Calvary unit in South Vietnam, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.

After being honorably discharged from active duty, Harry was accepted into Virginia Union University. He worked as a teacher's aide for four years at George Mason Elementary School and took afternoon and evening classes. He graduated in 1975 with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. He taught Health and Physical Education for two years in the Pittsylvania County Schools system. He then decided to utilize his "people" skills by entering the insurance business.

Davis began in 1977 as a career agent with the Reserve Life Insurance Company headquartered in Dallas, Texas. During this time he attended a career development school for Salesmanship in 1977 in Richmond, VA. He also attended a career development insurance training in Marketing Development in 1978 and Advanced Marketing Development in 1979 in Dallas, TX.

After receiving Agent of the Month numerous times while working for Reserve Life Insurance Company, he received both the Life Quality Award and the President's Club Award. He accepted a District Manager position with American Bankers Life Assurance Company and became Manager of the Year in the Danville Region and received the Century Club Award. He was promoted to Agency Manager and consequently was appointed Executive Sales Director.

In 1985 H. L. Davis opened his own agency, representing a half dozen top rated insurance companies. For his business accomplishments and service to the community, he was named African American of the Year for the Danville Area in 1988.

His staff has grown to include two special insurance executives to help him better serve his clients and friends in handling their insurance and financial needs.

On a personal note, Harry L. Davis is an Associate Minister at Callands Missionary Baptist Church in Chatham, VA. He is presently enrolled in Trinity College at Newburgh seeking a Master's of Arts degree in Pastoral Ministry. He is the proud father of a 17 year old daughter, Nerissa, a 12th grader at the Governor's School of Global Economics and Technology and Chatham High School.
