| Politics: Well, do you have a headache yet? Have all the pundants given you an ear full? Are you looking for a direction to vote in the upcomming election? Well, good news. Instead of spewing hundreds of facts and thousands of misquotes at you, I am going to take a completely different approach to the typical political conversation. I say ignore almost all of it! Moreover, I hope you take the responsibility to fill yourself with as much information as possible on all potential candidates. Maybe Gore seems perfect to you. Then again, maybe you've supported Bush since Day 1. No matter who you might support now, keep an open mind. Why? Because no matter how closely you follow things, you cannot know everything about every candidate. By blindly choosing one now and completely ignoring the other, you look at things in a very biased way. If you don't believe me, consider this: If you've decided on a candidate, do you find yourself trying to find information to back up your choice? Probably! It's called dissonance. People do it all the time in big decisions such as Car purchases and College choices. In fact, studies prove that people generally watch Car commercials to reaffirm their purchase decision. The same can be said about the political choices we make. However, the political commercials end election day. Therefore, people try to make decisions very early and then enjoy watching commercials to reaffirm their choice. The fact is, as polls indicate, this year's political race is close. The candidates are very similar. Therefore, it is your obligation to wait on your choice. You must wait and look at all the facts you can find. Don't listen to friends, political junkies, political analysts or anyone else. The facts exist and are available. Look at party platforms and make an informed decision. Most importantly, make this decision on election day and not before. This is an important decision. Take it seriously and appreciate that you live in a country that allows you to elect your leaders. |
