The
Search
for
Mr
Wright
25 year-old Andrew Wright is a hopeless romantic. And like any hopeless romantic he loves flowers, candle-lit dinners, chocolates, and opera. The trouble is he has no idea how to find his Mr Right. Keen to help Andrew in his search are his three lesbian separatist feminist friends, whom he calls the Gang of Three. These three comic characters live in a crumbling terrace in Newtown (Sydney, Australia).

For the Gang, life must be a politically correct and that includes not only how they live but the words they use. Words like manhole can never be used in their presence - only personholes. Andrew accepts his friends little peccadilos and respects their politically correct lifestyle. Even though he knows that they disapprove of his love of opera (its politically incorrect: the heroines usually die) the Gang play an important part in Andrews life as they are his only friends. One afternoon one of the Gang goads Andrew into action to find his Mr Right. They encourage him to write a politically correct ad. He places it on the net and begins his quest to find his perfect man.

The first attempt to meet Mr Right turns into farce when Andrew finds that instead of the date being tall, dark and handsome he looks more like a kid that should be carrying a skateboard. Andrew learns that the date does share his passions and interests in literature but instead of getting a pleasant candelit dinner he is taken to bathhouse.

Andrews luck with dates doesnt improve. If anything the men he meets seem to become increasingly more bizarre with each new date. From men who arent quite men to potential axe murders, Andrew just cant seem to find a normal gay man to build a life with. In between dates Andrew works on his thesis (The Post Modern Emperor has no Clothes) and also finds himself attending the Gang of Threes political actions. In one separate incident the Gang arrange a date. For Andrew its hate at first sight. But, to be nice to his friends he goes along with the date to the point of marching on Parliament House. But the date and the march go quite astray.

The Search for Mr Wright is a comic romp through the perils of modern day gay dating and a cautionary tale for all those seeking the right one.
