Course Ghosts
Three courses have course ghosts. Once you beat the time on each course,
the ghost of the course will race you when you retry. Here's what you need
to race each ghost:

Turbo Start
Well, if you haven't figured it out already, you can get a turbo boost by
pressing the A button just as the light turns green. If you press R just
after you start boosting, you can jump over all the karts and get far
ahead of your opponents!
Mirrored Tracks
You can unlock the difficult EXTRA mode by winning Gold trophies on all
four cups in the 150cc class.
Banana Peel Trick
When you ride over a banana peel and start to spin out, brake. Keep on the
brakes for about 1 or 2 seconds and then start again. If you did it right,
a note will appear over your character's head.
