The forces of the brutal New World Order continue to march ahead, but the old Authority refuses to stay down. The showdown's begun.
We see some of the bastards get their overdue comeuppance this issue - dead or no, they generally got off pretty easily - but the ones who really deserve it are clearly being saved for dessert, in next issue's conclusion. The signs are everywhere. Seeing the Ted Turnerish billionaire get what's coming to him is likely what most readers are looking forward to, even more than the monstrous Seth - the silverish monster menacing Midnighter over on the right, for those not in the know.
I'm less than convinced about one of the deaths this issue, but then again, this is comics. Who's ever really dead?
I've been enjoying this story despite it being delayed and fragmented so much it brought back memories of Miracleman's publishing schedule. I expect this - and the arc by Peyer more or less in the middle of this one - to be good for a reread.
Beyond all that, I'm interested in seeing how the Authority will deal with the world once they've come back from all this. Will they be moved to take an even sterner hand with the world, or will they come out of this thoroughly sick of international power politics and want to withdraw from such an open approach to the world? With the future of the series so much in question, who knows?
