| Your task 1. Make groups of 3-4 students. 2. Find five proverbs from five different countries that have a similar theme. For example: The hunter in pursuit of an elephant does not stop to throw stones at birds. -- Uganda One arrow does not bring down two birds. -- Turkey Cats don't catch the old birds. -- Netherlands You should not call in a cat to settle the argument of two birds. -- India Flying birds have no master. -- France Two birds disputed about a kernel, when a third swooped down and carried it off. -- Congo What is the theme of these five proverbs? Birds? Each proverb uses birds or characteristics of birds to teach a different lesson. Use the links at the bottom of the page to get started. 3. Create a poster listing each of your proverbs, the country or culture they are from and a short explaination of the meaning. If possible write the proverb in English and it's orginal language. You may also choose to use illustrations to entertain your audience or to give your audience a better understanding of the proverb. 4. You should use the writing process and create a draft of the explanations of the proverbs, and you should be sure that the proverbs and explanaitions are self-edited and peer-edited before publishing the proverbs on your poster. |
