Where did the last month go?

Due to my lack of internet, I haven’t been able to update this page…sorry about that. Well, not a tremendous amount has happened since my last post, however. The biggest thing has been that I started my third year of uni. I have gone to every class so far (yeah for me). I’m taking the History of Popular Culture in Modern America and War and Society in the Later Middle Ages. The USA class is a pure time-filler, as I have yet to learn anything that I haven’t really learned before. In fact, in every class the teacher always looks at me to see if I agree with what she is saying…it’s kind of funny (but annoying at the same time!). I’m ready to offer to teach the class myself, if they’ll give me money for it! Lol. Classes have been going pretty well so far, and I even had my first essay due today. That was fun. I’m a procrastinator by nature, as I’m sure that you all know, so I didn’t start doing any reading or anything until about a week before it was due. In fact, I didn’t even begin writing my first word until just this last Tuesday! I finished all my writing on Friday, and put it aside until Sunday night, when I picked it up and proofed it. All in all, I think it turned out to be a pretty good essay. The title was: McDonald’s: Fast-food Restaurant or American Icon? I didn’t think that there was any chance that I would be able to write the required 4,000 words for it, but in the end, I had just shy of 5,000 words! I’m now completely fascinated with McDonald’s, and no matter what the critics say about it, you can’t deny that the company experienced an impressively quick rise to power. I’ll let you know just what grade those words were worth when I get the result myself. I’m predicting a 16. Otherwise, school has been pretty consistent. I go to class at either 9am or 10am Monday through Thursday. After every class, I usually always have an extended 3 hour lunch with Nathan before going home. It’s all fairly routine, which works just great for me.

Besides uni, I have been trying to get my internet working. It was down for over two months, and as I absolutely detest talking to strangers on the phone, it was taking me forever to work up the courage to call the BT helpline. It doesn’t help that they go through a call center in India, and I usually have a very difficult time understanding what the operators are trying to say to me! However, the other day, I finally sucked up my courage (well really, it was desperation, as I knew that I’d need the internet to do my essay research in the very near future) and called. They told me that I had a fault in my phone line and transferred me to the local BT fix-it men. It was wonderful to be able to understand the smooth English accent that came on the phone. They said that they would have somebody come over the next day to fix my problem. Not an hour after I hung up, I got a call saying that there was a repairman in the area, and would be coming around to look at my line. The guy came up and examined everything, and basically told me that my phone line would have to be replaced, but because my flat is so high up in the building, and how my window doesn’t open all the way out, he’d have to come back tomorrow with his supervisor to try and get it done. The next day, the two of them appeared and worked all day replacing my line and fixing whatever needed to be done. Finally, after about 4 hours, the guy said that everything should be working and he was all done. I was so happy, and the first thing that I did was try out my internet…and it worked! I immediately started downloading everything that I had been craving, but then the internet went down again! I was scrambling to find the help number again when there was a knock on my door. The BT man was standing there, and he told me that my line had failed the final test, so he would have to look at it again. Oi. After leaving for a while and then coming back a few times, he finally fixed what was ultimately wrong. I asked him if I could use the internet again, and he said that yes, it should be working at last with no other complications…and he was right! Lol, after almost 6 hours of work in my flat, he finally left and I had functioning internet. All I’ve been doing since then is downloading songs and the TV shows that I had missed from the States. The internet is a wonderful thing.

In addition to my happiness from my newly-acquired internet connectivity, I also got a surprise text from my friend Ali. I hadn’t really heard from him in a couple of months, and he asked if I wanted to go out for a proper piss-up that night. I told him that I had to work until 7pm that night and that I had to go back to work the next morning at 8am, but he convinced me that I could work with a hangover, so I agreed to join him and my other friends for a night out. After work, I got ready and then headed to Ma Cameron’s to meet up with Ali, Scott and Fraser. The World Cup Rugby game was on, which I wasn’t too happy about, as I can’t stand rugby, but Scott is not a huge fan either, so we just talked and caught up with each other until the game was over (South Africa beat England, which in a room full of Scotsmen resulted in a loud, continuous uproar of celebrating). After we had a drink there, we went to The Basement (my ultimate favorite bar). I had my precious Drumstick drink, and then we decided to head to another pub. We went to Soul, where I had my first ever Appletini, and a shot of tequila (eww…I really hate that disgusting liquid fire!). After that we met up with some more friends and then all went to Slain’s Castle. We stayed there until closing, which I believe was about 1am. After that we walked down the street to Triple Kirks for some more drinks and dancing. The entire night was so fun, and I drank so much (I hadn’t really had a drink since my birthday in Denmark in June) that I was so out of it. At about 3am, I decided that I had to go home, as I had to get ready for work in just about 4 hours. Scott followed me out, and I walked home (without my shoes on, apparently…I wore really cute shoes that although very fashionable, were literally stripping the skin off the bottom of my feet…so much pain!). A few hours later I went into work. I was surprisingly fine for a time, but then at about 11am, I started to get a really bad hangover. Luckily, I got to leave at noon, and spent most of the remainder of the day in bed.

So yeah, there is a brief description about what I’ve been up to. I know that I’ve done a bunch more stuff, but unfortunately, it’s been so long that I can’t remember with any detail what exactly they were! Lol, serves me right for not updating my page more often! Well, I think that’s about it for now. If I remember anything else, I’ll try and stick it on this page…I really promise to try and update more often.
