In this series of tutorials I will explain how to use a tube I
made to make your own wooden frames, wooden shelves and wooden cabinets with
shelves. You will need to download the "pinetop" tube to follow along with
while doing this tut. It is a PSP7 tube and can be used in PSP6 or PSP8 by
opening the file in PSP and then "Export" it as a tube with these
options...Placement mode = Continuous and Step Size = 1, then just name it
"pinetop". Click on the link below to download the tube. Screenshots have been
resized to conserve download time when opening this page. I will be using PSP
7 for this tut.
Pinetop tube

Making a Simple Wooden Frame
Step 1
Open a new image at 500 x 500, resolution at 72, 16 million
colors and transparent.
Step 2
Click on your tube tool and select the "pinetop" tube. Click at
location "250 x 250" with the tube tool.
Step 3
Click on the "Deformation tool". Put your cursor on the
top-center node of the deformation outline at location 250 x 175. Click and
drag the outline down to location 250 x 260. Apply the deformation.
Note: In PSP7 you will have to turn on the rulers and estimate
where "260" is by keeping an eye on the deformation outline as you move it
down to where "260" is on the rulers.
Step 4
Drag the image near the bottom. Make a "Copy/Paste as New
Layer" of this layer and then do an "Image/Flip" and an "Image/Mirror". Drag
the duplicate near the top.
Step 5
Click on "Image/Rotate/Rotate Clockwise 90 degrees". All layers
will rotate.
Note: In PSP 7 click on "Image/Rotate", choose
"right/90 degrees" and make sure the box for "All layers" is checked.
Step 6
Do another "Copy/Paste as New Layer" and drag to bottom of
image. Again do a "Copy/Paste as New Layer", then "Image/Flip" and
"Image/Mirror" then drag to the top.
Step 7
Now move the frame pieces till they are all aligned with one
another. Click on "Layers/Merge/Merge Visible".
Step 8
You can now save it as a PSP frame. Click on "File/Save As" and
give the frame a name along with the extension "PspFrame". Save it in either
your "Picture Frames" folder in PSP 8 or in "My Documents/My PSP8
Files/Picture Frames".
Note: In PSP 7 when you do a "Save As", give
your frame a name along with the extension "pfr" and save it in your "Frames"
folder in PSP 7.
Final Step
You can save your frame as a Tube also by doing a
"Merge/Merge Visble" and Export it as a tube.
If you feel this frame
is too big, after "Step 3" use the "Selection Tool" set at "Rectangle",
feather = 0 and Anti-alias is un-checked. Make a selection around the top-half
of the frame piece and hit delete. De-select. Now continue on with "Step 4".
I hope that you have find this tut very informative on how to
create a simple wooden frame. Next tut I will show you how to make a simple
