Picture this:
It's 2005, and you walk into a store (let's say Electronics Boutique), and staring at you is the hot new release, Worlds of Warcraft. You spend $40 to buy the game. Once home, the first thing you do is install WoW onto your computer. You become immensely happy once you create your character and are ready to play online. After about a month of nonstop gaming, you pay the $5 fee you must pay EVERY MONTH to continue playing.
There are two things that are extremely wrong about WoW. First of all, on top of paying for the game, you must now pay $5 every month to continue online play. To me, that's a crime. The poor sonofabitch already paid for the game, why should he/she keep paying for it?
Secondly, people buy/sell items and gold from WoW over EBay and other things. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING?!? These people are hashing out good money (we're talking hundreds of dollars) for LINES OF CODE, for a game that they'll eventually stop playing! Why are people this stupid? Because they're so addicted that they want to get as far as they can as fast as they can. It's just rediculous.
WoW ruins lives. A friend of mine goes to RIT (Rochester, NY), and the horror stories that come from him are just shocking. One story involved a friend of his, who bought WoW during its premire, and then he didn't see the light of day for awhile. All he would do is play WoW. He didn't go to classes, and I'm sure if he could he wouldn't have slept/eaten either. This guy flunked out of college. Thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of his life wasted because of a video game.
PEOPLE: DON'T LET VIDEO GAMES CONTROL YOUR LIVES!!! Sure, people can get addicted (like I did/am to Counter-Strike), but what you all have to learn is that video games are not life... in fact, they destroy life. You can not let more important things in your life (like education, jobs, friends) go unattended just so you can play your games for an extra 2-3 hours everyday.
NOTE: I used WoW as just an example: There are many more games out there that do the same thing as WoW. So beware when you buy a video game, and DON'T LET IT RUIN YOUR LIFE!
