The summer '06 "teen movie" known as Beerfest did not look like the most sophisticated movie when I saw the previews for it, but when I went to see it, the overall quality of the film surprised me. What astounded me the most about the movie was that it had a full, well-thought-out plot, and the character development during the movie was magnificent compared to other teen movies.
Jan and Todd Wolfhouse are brothers of German descent who travel back to their family's homeland to fulfill their late Grandfather's dying wish, which was for them to go to Oktoberfest. Once there, the Wolfhouse brothers stumble upon a secret beer society known as Beerfest. Altercations ensue, and the Wolfhouse brothers find themselves training for the next annual Beerfest competitions.
Yes, there are some toilet humor jokes in this movie, but there's also a lot of "smarter" jokes embedded in this seemingly stupid story. Beerfest is full of one-liners and memorable quotes, and is definitely worth watching more than once, especially when enjoyed with some drinky-drinks and some good friends.
