A Tale of Two Pumpkins . . .

Once upon a time, there were two little pumpkins who lived in a field in Connecticut. One sunny Saturday morning, two noisy children plucked the pumpkins from their resting places, and took them to a small grey house where a mysterious alchemist came at the pumpkins with knives and marks-a-lot.

The first little pumpkin had always listened to her mother, had always finished her homework on time, and had never punched or kicked her little brother pumpkin. She was rewarded by being transformed into a smiling jack-o'-lantern

The second little pumpkin sassed his mother, bullied his big sister and took more than his share of bubble gum. But, he was cute and he gave great snuggles. So, the alchemist transformed him into the image of a first grader.

The two little pumpkins were placed on the front step of the grey house, where they entertained themselves by counting the number of times the neighborhood boys fell off their skateboards on the driveway. And on Halloween night, they only shouted "BOO" at the largest kids -- the ones who were probably too old to trick-or-treat anyway.

MADAME MEXICALI MAKES RARE CONNECTICUT APPEARANCE

Madame Maria Mexicali, known as "The Fastest Fortuneteller in the West", made a surprise appearance in New England recently. Seen here with her daughter Pinkie the Poodle Girl, Madame Mexicali wowed the crowds at the Highland Elementary School Monster Mash with her stunning psychic predictions. She spoke quietly, and with a strange Irish-Texas lilt to her voice, but some of the more intelligible prophesies were:

The Diamondbacks will beat the Yankees 9 - 1 in the first game of the Series, and 4 - 0 in the second game. The Yankees will win the next three games, but Arizona will stage a stunning comeback, and take the series in the bottom of the ninth, during the seventh game.

The sun will set more than one hour earlier on October 28, 2001 as it did the day before.

Pinkie will not get the baby brother or sister she so longs for, nor will she be placated with a new puppy.
