Tips: 1. Come to class prepared everyday. (Bring a notebook, all unchecked homework, a writing utensil, your planbook, a calculator, and any additional items I requested.) 2. Use your planbook to record homework assignments and important events, such as tests, quizzes, and project due dates. (Be sure to check your planbook each night.) 3. Do your homework comprehensively and on time. (10% penalties per day late add up fast. Students are responsible for getting their missed work when absent. Don't come to class with your homework assignment on a disk. If you are having printer problems, email your work to me or come to school early to print your assignment out in the media center. Also, when the homework is to read a section and answer the section review questions... DO THE READING! Reading the questions and skimming for answers will do little to increase your understanding of the material. The purpose of the reading is for additional exposure to the material. Research shows that multiple exposures in multiple modalities will increase the learning that takes place.) 4. Ask questions during class if you do not understand a concept. (Don't be embarrassed about asking questions. If you have the question, there is a strong likelihood that someone else does, too. Everyone will benefit from a pertinent question.) 5. If you are struggling with the material, seek extra help. (I am available before school most mornings. I am also available during flex time and after school. Please just let me know that you want to come.) 6. Ask friends for help. (Many times your peers can do a fantastic job of helping you to understand something.) 7. Use the chapter review sections at the end of each chapter as a study guide. (Be sure to try the practice test and then come to see me to check your answers.) 8. Be sure to download any notes that I have posted online for a chapter. (You can use these notes in addition to what we've done in class to study from.) 9. Try the online practice tests that are posted on my school notes page. (For the curious and those who like to go above and beyond, there are also some enrichment activities to supplement the things we have class time for.) 10. Come in the morning of a quiz or test for a peer study session in my room. (I'll be there to answer questions and give you some ideas.) 11. Do the monthly online extra credit questions. (If you're just looking for a few extra points to bump that B+ to an A-, this is a great choice. Besides, it can't hurt to try!) 12. Record all of your grades, and monitor your progress. (It's important to be reflective.) |
