Chapter 10 – There are 3 other people in GC besides Paul

I laid there on my bed in hopes that when I woke up everything would be over and sorted out.

“Hey kid, how are you doing?”

I looked up to find Benji standing over me. “I’m doing ok…thanks.”

            “No, you’re not, you’re a mess. Mind if I take a seat?”

I slid over so Benji could sit on the bed. “I just…”

“It’s ok…you can tell me.” Benji said.

Surprisingly I was feeling really comfortable while talking to Benji. “I’m just so confused. I don’t know if this is going to work out again. I mean the first time we went out it didn’t work out, so it’s obviously not going to work out again…And it seems to not be working out the second time we’re going out…” I started to ramble because I wasn’t feeling good.

“Ok, first thing, stop saying out...second…why do you feel like this?”

“Because of New York…and then last night.”

            “Last night?” Benji asked.

            “Yeah, with Paul and Ayla—”

            “They were just dancing…”

“Uhh, no…Paul and her slept together.”

Benji’s face became enraged. “What? Are you ok with this?”

“No, that’s the thing.” I paused. “And I hate myself for letting Paul think otherwise.”

“You have to let him know you’re hurt.”

            “I can’t.”

“Do you want me to talk to him for you?”

I waited before answering. “…Can you?”

            “Sure, anything for you.”

“I just want to fall asleep, wake up and have this whole thing sorted out.” I started crying into my pillow.

“I think I can help you…” Benji laid down on the bed, hugged me and started to sing a song.

“Thank you.” I whispered.

I woke up three hours later. Benji was gone, but I felt somewhat relieved. I stumbled out into the living room; Maddie was sitting on the couch watching TV.

“Hey, are you feeling any better?” she asked.

“Actually, I am, but just a little.”

“That’s good.”

“Where are the guys?”

“They left for the show tonight.”

“Oh…mind if I watch some TV with you?”

“Oh defiantly. And the guys want us to come to the show tonight.”

I sat down next to Maddie on the couch “Meh, I don’t know.”

“Well, you know there are 3 other people in GC besides Paul, who you happen to be friends with.”

            I laughed. “It’s more like 2.”

“Who did I miss?” Maddie asked.

“Joel...” I paused, “By the way, how’s it going with you two?”

“Great. I really like him.”

“Yeah, it seems like it.”

“Yeah…” Maddie paused. “Hey since there’s nothing on the TV, wanna go see a movie?”

“Sure.” I replied.

“Ok cool.”

“Let me just get ready first.”  I said.

I put on my black UFO’s and a gray long sleeved shirt with a blue Good Charlotte tee over it. It took me two seconds to put my hair up into a messy-bun.

“Ok, I’m ready.” I reached for my black Alkaline Trio hoodie.

“Great. What do you want to see?”

“Surprise me.” I replied.

Maddie laughed, “Ok.”

We got to the movies and the only thing playing was White Oleander, which I didn’t want to see.

“I don’t want to see this.” Maddie said.

“Great, I was just thinking the same thing.” We laughed and then I suggested we get dinner. We both didn’t have a lot of money on us, so we went to the nearest Checkers and got burgers and fries.

“So what exactly happened with you and Paul?”

“I couldn’t tell you. I don’t have a clue.”

“Well aren’t you guys in a fight?”

I took a sip of my Coke to wash down the French fries. “Yes, we are. But I don’t know how it got so bad; it all went so fast. I mean, it’s my third day here and I’m already in a fight with him. I just…don’t know.”

“Talk to him about it. Let him know.”

“Hah, you and Benj said the same thing.”

“So maybe you should.”

“After the show.” I took another sip of my drink.

“So you’re coming?”

“I guess so…it couldn’t hurt.”

Maddie and I got back to the hotel, showered and got ready for the show. I was quietly singing the song Benji sang to me earlier.

“You have a great voice.” Maddie said.

“Oh.” I blushed. “Thank you…where’s Emily?”

“She left with he guys earlier and went to the venue with them.”

“Hmm. Shall we get going?” I asked

“Yeah.”

The concert was so loud I couldn’t hear myself think. The guys had been performing for an hour already, so they should be off soon.

Now you’ve got me thinking ‘bout the first time that I met you…standing in a crowded room but I could only see you…And I hope my words will get through ‘cause now I can’t forget you, I wanna tell you if only I could reach you…and make you feel this way…” I saw Benji mouth those words to Emily and I couldn’t help but smile. Those two were absolutely perfect for each other. I found Maddie floating around trying to get a drink at the bar.

“Hey…great show” She said.

“Yeah, I’m so glad I came. They guys are great live.”

“Yeah…” Maddie leaned her head and looked over my shoulder.

“What’s wrong?”

“Oh...nothing.” I looked behind me and saw Ayla in the crowd. I went to get up and confront her, when Maddie grabbed my arm. “Don’t” she told me.

“Don’t worry…I’ll be back in a minute.” I walked over to Ayla and tapped her on her shoulder.

“Oh…hi...” she said.

“Hello…what are you doing here? You’ve done enough damage as it is.”

“I know…I wanted to tell you and Billy that I’m sorry.”

“Sorry?”

“Yes, if I could take it all back I would.” Ayla said.

“You can’t take it back…you can never take it back. Was it worth it?”

“Worth what?”

I couldn’t believe she was trying to play off being clueless. “Was it worth separating me and Paul, losing Billy and losing you’re roommate?”

“Losing my roommate? You’re not coming back to New York?”

“Oh I am, and I expect the apartment to be mine when I get there.”

“You’re kicking me out?”

“Yes.” I replied

“You can’t do that!”

“Well, seeing how it’s not a dorm, and you’re renting in MY apartment, I’m pretty sure I can.”

“Don’t do this Hailey.”

“No…you brought this upon yourself.”

“When are you coming home?”

“I don’t know…tomorrow…next week. Anytime”

Ayla let out a sigh and walked out of the club. I walked back to Maddie at the bar and ordered a beer.

“So, what happened?”

“I kicked Ayla out of the apartment.”

“Wow.”

“She brought it upon herself.”

“What did you say?”

“That I wanted her out by the time I got home.”

            “Which would be?”

“Tomorrow, next week…” I paused and let out a sigh. “Never?”

Maddie and I walked back to the stage as GC was finishing their set. This was going to be an interesting night…
