MADDIE’S chapter six – Hottie Potty

Fi’s POV

I woke up yawning to the highly annoying shrill of my alarm clock.  I have it set on the highest volume; otherwise it would probably fail to wake me up.  I’m a fan of sleeping; especially when I’m cuddled up next to someone.  Speaking of which that person would be Joel.  It took me a moment to figure out that the warm body with his arm tucked around me was Joel.  We must’ve fallen asleep watching American Beauty, the fourth time we played it – I remember getting fully through it three times.  At first I thought he might be Evan; not that Evan’s on my mind or anything.  I realized that I don’t miss Evan as much as I thought, I miss the memories.  He was good to me, but he grew away from me and hurt me.  I just miss sharing good times with someone like him.

Joel’s eyes fluttered and he yawned.

            Hello morning breath.

I rolled my eyes, but with happiness and pushed him off the couch.  He landed with a thud.

“Steph, what are – Oh, hey Fi. Morin’.”

Oh, so he’s thinking of her.  I shouldn’t be surprised, should I? Still, maybe he doesn’t like her that much.  I’ll have to make a move while I can. I got up and grabbed the Listerine and threw it at Joel. “Go kill so plaque, will you.  You breath reeks like a dog.”

Joel grins, “It’s just that way because you know you like it.”

I rolled my eyes at him, “Just keep on thinking that way.”

He grabbed his bag that he abandoned at the door the night before.  He headed to the bathroom to brush his teeth.

I turned to find Joel’s phone ringing on the coffee table.  I grabbed it to answer it; it can’t be anyone too important, right?

“Joely baby hottie potty pie?” The voice is obviously female; it’s high and very squeaky. What kind of girl refers to Joel as ‘potty’? Sometimes I wonder about him . . .

“No, sorry. He’s in the bathroom right now.”

“Oh hi Billy!” She giggled and I think I already don’t like whoever she is.  I can’t stand that voice – so high, so nasal, and so squeaky.  “It’s me, his Stephy!”

            “Sorry, it’s not Billy.”

“Oh,” I can hear the gears in her small head turning, “Paul!” She giggles.

“No, I’m not Paul or Billy.” I don’t even have a man voice. Come on.  “I’m a friend of Joel’s.  He’s at my place.”

“Oh, I get it! Yeah, I called his hotel and they said no Joel had checked in!”

There was a knocking at my door and I got up to answer it, ignoring Steph’s giggling. I opened the door to be answered by identical giggling.

She continued to talk into her pink-face-plated cell phone even though she was right in front of me.  “I found you’re address in his stuff so I came here! I couldn’t stay away from him too long.” I wonder what happens if you were away from him for a long time? I smile at the thought of a shriveled “Stephy.”  Why am I so angry towards her? Besides her stupidity, I mean.

Maybe my feelings for Joel are deeper than I thought.

Joel walked into the room to find me obliviously listening to Stephanie’s happily chatter on her phone.  I already hung up Joel’s phone; she didn’t seem to notice.

She giggled and finally hung up.  Literally skipping over to Joel, she jumped on him and hugged him.  She was cute, in a ditzy blonde way.  She had on a tight pink midriff shirt and an (extra) short mini skirt.  She also had on platform glittery shoes.  Her shirt was so tight that it left barely anything to the imagination.  I couldn’t help but smirk to myself.  Her obvious fake boobs are large, but mine are still bigger.  One point Fi, zero Stephy.  Not that looks matter, of course.

Joel’s arms were loose around Stephanie’s thin waist.  “Steph?”

She giggled. “Hey hottie potty pie!”

“What are you doing here?”  I’m usually good at reading some emotion; I could tell Joel’s emotions were mixed.

“I couldn’t bear the thought of being without you for a week!” She stuck out her bottom lip and pouted.  It seems like she’s one of those girls who use their looks to get everything – because they don’t have much else.  I mean, sure Stephanie is pretty, but it doesn’t seem like there’s much between her ears.

Joel turned Steph around to face me. “Fi, this is Steph.  Steph this is Fi, obviously.”

Stephanie smiled, “Hi Fi!” It’s like she forgot we were just talking. She promptly turned around and started to walk out the door, tugging on Joel’s sleeve. “I’m hungry.  C’mon Joel, you can take me out!”

Joel beckoned to me with an apologetic smile. “Fi, come with us.  It’ll be fun.” He smiled at me, “We’ll get to spend more time together.”

Stephanie pouted but didn’t say anything; Joel had his mind made up.

I shrugged, “Well, okay.  But just for you, Joel.”

Joel smiled and patted me on the arm.  I had to take a deep breath – where are these feelings for him coming from?

            At a restaurant. . . yum!

“Yea so them ummm yea!” Stephanie smiled and nibbled on a mozzarella stick. She giggled, “So Fi-Fi how did you meet my baby baby wuvvy poo?”

I blinked, “It’s Fiona.” That meant Joel, right? “Joel?” I wonder how many of my fries could fit up her -

She interrupted my thought, “Yup!” She nodded happily.

“Through friends, a friend of mine who likes Paul kind of had us in the right place to meet each other.”

“Oh,” She took a bite of her mozzarella stick then giggled again, “Bet ‘cha can never guess how I met him, Fi-Fi?”

“I wonder, maybe you saw him at the tanning parlor.”

            She laughed, “No, silly.”

Joel looked from her to me. “I don’t think Fi cares.”

I smiled sweetly at Joel while thinking how dense this girl was. “No, Joely, I’d love to know.”

Stephanie giggled, “Well, he has this band umm Okay Scarlet?”

“Good Charlotte.” Joel sounded like he was used to correcting her.

“Yea so his umm band and stuff were like playing instruments. And after their show they like went to umm a hotel and I hehe I followed them! I snuck into their room and jumped on top of Joel when he was changing. Hehehe – I’m so sneaky! Yea, me and Joel like go way back!”

“Oh really?” I cocked an eyebrow at Joel and he blushed self-consciously.

“Oh! I think I need to freshen up!” Steph hopped up, kissed Joel on the cheek, the headed towards the bathroom.

Joel turned to me and locked his eyes with mine. “Listen Fi, I’m sorry.”

“About what?” He thinks he can get away with going with her.

“About Stephanie, about all of this . . . about us.”

            I hesitated, “About us?”

            He nodded.

            “Is there an us?”

He placed his hand over mine and gave it a slight squeeze.  Taking his hand back, he shrugged, “There could be.”

“So why are you going out with Stephanie.  She’s just another blonde, I thought you had more sense than that.”

He shrugged again, “Well, nothing happened between us. And frankly, I was lonely.  I wanted to have someone.”

I nodded.  I was still jealous, but I could see where he was coming from – kind of.  “How long are you two going to be together?”

Joel opened his mouth to respond but Steph bounded back up to the table.

            She giggled, “Hi guys!”

The rest of the dinner was filled with idle conversation and me wondering how I really felt about Joel and how he felt about me.

I blinked my eyes open the next morning to find Joel smiling at me. “Joel, what are you doing you looser?”

He smiled, “You’re such a lovely girl in the morning.”

I grunted and rolled over so I wasn’t facing him.

“Get up, sleepy head!” He sat on my bed, a tray in his lap, “I made you breakfast.”

            I sat up, “Really?”

He grinned, “Really.” He had scrambled eggs, a toasted bagel, and a bowl of lucky charms all on his tray. Joel kissed me on the cheek, “Enjoy!”

“What or how much do you want?”

“Can’t I just make my Fiona breakfast?” He is way too happy in the morning.

“No, no you can’t. Where’s my orange juice?”

He grinned and handed me a glass.

Taking a long drink, I finally started to really wake up. “Joel, why are you so cheery this morning?”

            He blinked, “Cheery?”

“Would you rather me say ‘chipper’?”

He laughed – a little too happy for 8:00 in the am.  “No, I guess cheery is just fine.  Why shouldn’t I be happy, waking up in the same house as a beautiful girl?”

Blushing, I remember the end of our night out.  Joel dropped Stephanie off at the hotel she had chosen earlier that day. He mentioned to her that he still had stuff at my place.  She giggled and bounced off, but not before she kissed him.  I watched her kiss him; it was terrible for me.  I think I knew I had feelings for Joel inside.  I guess I just never realized how deep they really were.  What I did notice was Joel’s “reaction.”  He did move his lips some to kiss back, but he was that into it – his tongue wasn’t in as many places as hers was.

Anyway, so after that we went back to my place and I clicked on the TV, just in time to catch The Others ((Super great movie ppl!!)).  Joel sat snuggly next to me and we watched the movie comfortably for a little while.  I remember getting tired and falling asleep.  Joel carried me in here and tucked me in.

So why is he smiling? And did he just call me beautiful? “Joel, what are you talking about?”

“I realized something last night, my Fiona.” He lifted up the tray and glass and sat them on the floor next to the bed.

“And what would that be Joel?” He sat closer to me and I could feel his arm wrapping around my waist.  I can feel a bit of heat rising to my cheeks.

“I think I know how I really feel about you.”  He leaned forward and nuzzled his nose to my neck.

“You feel for me?” It came out more meekly than I planned.

“Mmm hmmm,” He kissed my neck.

Oh my goodness, those are some soft lips. I just had to tell myself to actually breath.  Taking in a deep, slightly shaky breath, I had to reluctantly push him away – very reluctantly.

Joel looked at me with questioning eyes.

            “She’s still you’re girlfriend, isn’t she?”

But the look in Joel’s eyes, I could tell she still was.  I got up to take a shower.
