MISIÓN SAN  MIGUEL ARCÁNGEL

 

In 1795 something big happened to Governor Boric. Mission San Luis and Mission San Antonio. There were only a few soldiers forming this expedition. Fray Sitiar wrote to Fray Lasuen that he found a good spot with water and timber. Governor Boric wrote that he gave permission to build a mission for $1,000.

In 1796, Viceroy Bracifar says that the building could begin. Mission San Miguel near the Salinas River. The site was also near a large Salinas village. The Spanish hoped that the Salinas from the village. On July, 25,1797, Fray Lausen founded mission San Miguel Arcangel.  They put the name mission San Miguel Arcangel because they made it on July 25, 1797 and that day is Saint Michael or (San Miguel’s) day.  That’s why it has the name.
