Mission San Gabriel Arcángel
In this report, I'm going to tell you about a mission I like so
much. The part that is more important is who founded the mission. In my other
paragraphs I'm going to tell you what I like most in my mission San
Gabriel. In my first paragraph, I'm
going to tell you of the early history, also how it was founded, and also some
important events that happened there. Finally, I'll tell you what happens at
the mission today.
On September 8th, 1771, Frays Cobón and Somera founded
the forth mission, San Gabriel, and named it after Saint Gabriel, god's
messenger. The real Father is Junípero Serra. Frays Cobón and Somera founded
it at the site that was chosen by Father Serra.
What I like about my mission is who founded it. Also, what I like
is what the Indians’ name sounds like. Also the person that founded was Juniper
Serra and that name is a little funny for a name.
I'm going to tell you why it has the name that it has. There where
some several earthquakes while they stayed there, so they named the river Río San
Gabriel de los Temblores (river of earthquakes in Spanish).
Some important events were: the Mission is known for the Lady of
Sorrows at this mission. One of the
things that happened there is an earthquake. One of the other things is that
Indians died. I'm going to tell you what they sold. Excellent vineyards gave
wine for the priests to use and to sell. They also sold wheat and corn. Grazing land developed huge herds of cattle
and sheep. The mission today is very well.
For nine years, the mission's bells were very silent. The building
is very old and the bells are damaged. Now, the mission is like new. I'm
telling you what happened at the mission today.
I told you who founded the mission. Also I told you about the
early history of the mission. Then also I told you how the mission is
today. Finally, I told you what part I
liked most. I hope you like my report.
So you better like it because, if not, I will get mad.
