Kat Moore
As a kid, my mom would sometimes let me use her point & shoot. I loved using her camera and photographed everything I could. In 1997 I bought my first camera - a Kodak point and shoot. I never left home without it, until I left for uni and it had to be left behind in Chicago. My studies were in broadcast production, my speciality being video editing, and the photography had to take a back seat. Seven years (and a lot of stress) later I returned to my first love - photography - and, in Aug 2004, bought my first real camera - a Nikon film SLR. Barely a month in Florida saw the Olympics and Hurricane season paying for my “creative therapy”. It didn’t take long for me to discover why I had missed photography so much and the decision to find a way of making it my profession was made.
I was given the opportunity to try Skateboarding & BMX photography by my friends at a local skate/BMX/tobacco shop called “Nicotine”. From that first shoot, I was hooked and spent almost every moment of my spare time photographing the guys riding their boards or bikes wherever we arranged to meet.
Whatever time I had left between the Skate/BMX shoots and work, I spent driving around northern Florida photographing surfers at the beach, motorbikes, sunsets and musicians. Holiday time saw me experimenting with taking photos through airplane windows.
