Chapter Seven: Abdulmon Wings to the Sky
As the group continued along the side of the river, they noticed that its sides got steeper and steeper. Eventually the river ran along the bottom of a ravine, and the group were following it along the top of the cliffs. Kerri looked over the edge in fear.
Kinda scary Kerri mused.
Not unless you fall. Eaglemon replied.
Youre okay, youve got wings! Kerri retorted.
So what? Eaglemon said. I can still be afraid of heights, cant I?
A bird thats afraid of heights? Kerri summarised, screwing up her face. Thats weird.
Soon, the group came to a metal bridge across the ravine. Tim approached the bridge and looked around.
Do you guys think we should cross? He asked.
This is probably the last chance well get. Darren mused, approaching the bridge.
Yeah, I think we should. Audrey affirmed. The sixteen members of the party then started to cross the bridge single-file. Kerri looked down into the ravine below; it had to be at least half a kilometre deep. She swallowed hard and looked forward.
Great, just great Kerri said, putting both hands on the metal railings on either side of the bridge. Suddenly, the group heard a bird call. They stopped walking and looked around.
Eaglemon, was that you? Kerri asked.
Nope Eaglemon replied. Suddenly, out of the bushes on the opposite side of the bridge, flew a huge bird Digimon! It looked like a hawk, with a blue plumage and black breast feathers. At the end of its legs was a set of large talons.
Whats that? Khalid asked, looking up in awe.
Its Swoopmon! Slipmon informed him. Like his name says, hes a master of swooping down and grabbing pray.
Swooping Claw! Swoopmon called, flying low over the group. They all ducked to avoid the attack.
Quick guys, run! Tim shouted, running across the bridge quickly. Sam and Darren were next across, followed by Audrey. But as Kerri was crossing, Swoopmon attacked again.
Swooping Claw! Swoopmon declared, flying low and grabbing Kerris top in its claws. The young girl screamed as the large bird picked her up off of the ground!
Kerri! Eaglemon called.
Help! Kerri screamed.
Ill help you! Eaglemon announced. Sweeping
No! Sam called, raising a hand to stop Eaglemon. If you attack Swoopmon, hell drop Kerri!
What are we gonna do? Tim asked, running up to Sam.
I dont know. Sam said. If we cant attack Swoopmon, theres nothing we can do.
Ive got an idea! Darren said, and the rest of the group turned to him. If we throw that Digivice we found to her, and its hers, then Eaglemon will Digivolve and save her!
What? Tim exclaimed. Darren, dont be stupid, what if it isnt hers?
We have to try it! Darren exclaimed.
Darren, theres only a one in seven chance that will work. Sam reminded him. And besides, if it isnt hers, well lose her and the Digivice!
And if it is? Darren asked.
No way Darren, the Digivice is staying right here in my pocket! Tim said, patting his pocket. Then, Andrea leaned down to Eaglemon and whispered in his ear. Eaglemon nodded and walked ahead of the group. Andrea wrapped her arms around Tim from behind and started rubbing his chest.
Tim She whispered in his ear before moving her hands down.
Huh? The young man replied, startled. With incredible swiftness, Andrea reached into his pocket, grabbed the Digivice, and threw it to Darren.
Go Darren! Andrea called, and Darren ran off.
Andrea! Tim shouted, furious. He ran after Darren, but Eaglemon blocked his path.
Sweeping Wing! Eaglemon announced, waving some wind at the group, preventing them from getting to Darren, who was at the side of the ravine and ready to throw the Digivice.
Kerri, catch! Darren called, throwing the device to her. Unfortunately, he had aimed a little high, and the Digivice instead hit Swoopmon! The large bird Digimon, surprise by the blow of the Digivice, dropped Kerri, causing the young girl to fall into the ravine! She began to scream, but then saw the Digivice falling with her.
Please let it be mine, please let it be mine
With all the faith she had, she reached out and grabbed the device. The young girl breathed a sigh of relief as the screen of the device instantly lit up; it was hers! Back on the bridge, Eaglemon glowed with a brilliant white light.
Eaglemon Digivolve to The bird Digimon cried, as its form grew bigger. Abdulmon! The white light dissipated, revealing to the group a large bird Digimon with a yellow plumage, with blue tail and head feathers. Its head was topped with a crown of yellow feathers. Abdulmon wasted no time in taking off and flying down into the ravine. As Kerri was falling, she looked up and saw a different bird Digimon swooping down to her! This one flew under her, causing her to land safely and comfortably on his plumage.
Eaglemon? Kerri asked. Is that you?
Not Eaglemon. Abdulmon said. My name is Abdulmon. I am your guardian, Kerri, and my Mega Wing attack should take care of Swoopmon once and for all!
With these words, Abdulmon flew back up again, to the side of the ravine. It dropped Kerri safely off near the bridge.
Kerri! Andrea called, embracing her friend. Im glad youre alright.
See, you guys? Darren said to Tim and Sam. The other two boys stood dumbfounded.
Id hate to break this up Abdulmon interrupted. But we still have a birdbrain to battle.
With these words, Abdulmon took off, hovering in the air opposite Swoopmon.
Swooping Claw! Swoopmon shouted, flying towards Abdulmon with its talons extended. Abdulmon very calmly flew out of the way, and Swoopmon flew right past him.
You obviously have a lot to learn about air to air combat. Abdulmon noted, watching his adversary. Swoopmon flew into a nearby tree, and was catapulted back the way he came. Abdulmon then extended his own talons and grabbed Swoopmon when he returned.
Its time for you to see what this annoying attack feels like! Abdulmon shouted, flying onto the other side of the ravine and throwing Swoopmon down onto the ground.
Mega Wing! Abdulmon announced, creating a ball of red energy in front of his right wing. With a swift movement of his limb, he propelled the ball downwards, hitting Swoopmon, which shrieked in pain as it split into its atoms. Abdulmon landed, glowed white, and returned to his original Eaglemon form. He was about to fly back to the others, when he noticed, lying on the ground nearby, a Digivice. He picked it up and flew over to the others.
Im tired, Kerri Eaglemon complained, looking up at his human partner. Kerri looked down at Eaglemon and then back up at the group.
Im tired too, guys! Kerri shouted. Can we stop and rest somewhere?
Alright. Tim called back.
You know, Darren Sam said to Darren. Im sorry I doubted that idea. Even though the chances were small, I should have realised that it was the only way to save Kerri.
Its alright Sam. Darren replied.
Heres a good place to rest. Tim said, pointing to a tree. The group gathered around it and made themselves comfortable.
Ill go on guard first. Sam offered. Im not that tired anyway.
But its late, Sam! Audrey shouted. Come on, get to sleep! Ill keep guard!
Im alright, Audrey! Sam called. Come on Tridemon!
Tridemon stood and followed his human partner to their guard post. Kerri leaned her head on Andreas shoulder.
Thanks, Andi. Kerri whispered. Andrea simply smiled and leaned her head on Kerris. Eaglemon and Salamon looked on.
Aww, arent they cute Eaglemon said, sitting with his back against the tree.
Does this mean we have to be good friends too? Salamon asked, turning to Eaglemon.
I suppose so. Eaglemon answered.
Alright then Salamon trailed off, jumping onto Eaglemons lap and curling up.
Hey, what are you doing? Eaglemon asked.
Sleeping on your lap. Salamon replied.
I cant sleep like this! Eaglemon exclaimed. Youll ruffle my feathers and Ill get bed plumage!
Tough! Im already comfortable! Salamon announced with finality, before closing her eyes and falling asleep. Eaglemon didnt like it, but he leaned his head back, rested one wing on Salamons back, and fell asleep.
