Battle damaged B-17

Below: a B-17 with its nose totally destroyed. Amazingly, the pilot managed to bring the plane back to its base which is located in England. In fact, many B-17s came home like this one.

Below: this big hole was created by a 88mm flak, killing 2 crews instantly. This Fortress came back to base too.

Below: notice how badly damaged the left wing is...and again, this B-17 flew back to base.

Below: the whole tail section was blown away, while the rear control surfaces were badly damaged. This Fortress came home as well. And more amazingly, the tail gunner, who was blown away with the tail section, somehow survived.
