Nearly Bits
In a site which is apparently devoted to 'bits', I thought it rude not to include a section on things which are nearly bits, but by the power of a mistype never quite made it. These are, of course, nits. hits, gits and vits. These are the four most common possible mispellings of bits, due to their first letters being the four most closely touching 'b' on a keyboard.
Nits
This is a small family of nits, or 'head-lice' as those who enjoy the word 'lice' call them. They might look quite confused at the moment - that is because they have been fooled by a hairy camera into perching on a lens which they thought was a lovely head to breed on.
While the overall nit agenda is not entirely known, it is believed nits one day hope to grow up to be wildebeast, prowling the savannah and laying eggs in elephant grass.
What nits think of bits is also unknown, but the nit on the right in this picture is clearly giving an impassioned speech on the subject, whilst the stance of the one in the middle shows a distinst cynicism to the realistic social value of bit contributions.
Hits
There are three main types of hits in contemporary usage:
1. Visits to a website
2. Successful music songs
3. Sudden aggressive moves by blunt objects
The last two are usually quite painful, the first less so.
Interestingly, you have just performed a 'hit' on this webpage by visiting it now, so you should have first hand experience of those hits now.
Music 'hits' can vary from good to bad, but as a small piece of advice, listen to any music before you buy it, whether it is a hit or not, as it may contain subliminal messages designed to brainwash you, and there's little point in buying the record if you have prelistened and already been brainwashd as required. You would merely be denying some other person the brainwashing pleasure you had just enjoyed.
This child on the left is displaying a 'sudden aggressive move by blunt object' type of hit - he is in fact 'hitting' the ball with the bat. He appears to be playing baseball, so I can only assume he is in fact playing in an American 'World Series' and is about to win the 'Super Bowl'.
Gits
As well as being a frankly disturbing looking Japanese anime show called 'Ghost in the Shell' featuring some poor barely dressed cartoon girl, (go on, type gits into google image search) the traditional English git is a person who purposefully attempts to irritate others, or belittle their efforts to do things.
Old gits are a popular breed in the English countryside, telling people how things used to be done (better than now) and how young people these days have no thought for anything but themselves, lazy louts that they are.
An old git I knew once placed his walking stick in the spokes of a friend's bike, damaging both bike and firend; this can be considered as typical git action, destroying the fun of others.
There is a fellow at college with me who is a lej-endary 'Lazy Git': this is accomplished by doing no work whatsoever and achieving high marks in exams. Sufficient revenge was take upon this git though, by beating him in a football tournament.
Treasure your gits: they are precious in their own way, but do not hesitate in mocking them or getting your own back in inventive ways.
Vits
Vits is a versatile word, used for many, many things.
Not least of these things is as a shortening for vitamins, this shortening is most frequently used by those obscenely obsessed with such things: body-builders, dieters and other similar types most frequently.
There is also a St. Vits cathedral somewhere in the German speaking world, I'm not quite sure where, but I'm certain it's lovely and would recommend it to anyone.
Vits is also something to do with German cars, probably integral to the world economy, if we're honest.
Pictured left is quadro abstrato vits, some sort of abstract painting, once again utilising the awesome power of vits.
remember, keep your vits topped up.
So there you have it, a definitive guide to 'nearly bits'. I hope you found this informative and useful. If you have anything to help add to this guide to these four words, don't hesitate to tell me, and I'll add to my definitions with your new knowledge.
