Duke (page 4)
...built a house on a small area near a place where the river dipped enough to be crossed (a ford). He called it Brianhampstead (he was called Terry). This then grew into a small village, controlling trade across the river Ford by governing the only ford in the area. This village then came under assault from a nearby town, enraged at the Brianhampstead levies on river crossing. The lead (and only) militiaman of Brianhampstead then called all the men of the village together with a rather endearing call of Forard, Forard! (a colloquialism of Forward, forward) which led to much mirth in the attacking townsfolk. After Brianhampstead had been razed to the ground, to pay tribute to the now dead comedy militiaman, they renamed the new village built in its ashes Forard, Forard which degraded over time into Fordford.
The chainsaw didnt hit Duke, however, it merely buried itself into the ground. Algernons boot came very close though, and Duke got a good look at the piece of muck which had stuck there earlier. This may seem unremarkable, except for the fact that it displayed a fractal geometry enough to make Duke forget his earlier project on particle, and forge a new branch of Mucky Maths and claim world-wide applause, as its applications solved world problems such as war, famine, peace and mime artists. He then became disillusioned with the whole thing, found a Russian bride on the internet and ran away with her to Jamaica, where he set up a radical commune with like-minded people focussed on growing extra large beetroots which didnt mind being boiled (the people didnt mind being boiled alive, that is, the beetroots were quite anti-boiling in all its forms).
Thats all for now. Thought youd like to know.

Oh, and you may have been wondering where I fit into all this (though you may not, though you may well be thinking about it now, I cant really tell you) and I can reveal:
I was a fly on the wall.

Flies are very common in the country after all.
