Mr. Mahlum
The Extremely Simplistic
Weight Vs. Mass
Experiment
Introduction: This experiment will help to illustrate the
difference between mass and weight.
Materials: Standard Mass Set 10 Newton Spring Scale
Procedure:
1. Obtain a set of standard
hooked masses, and a 10 Newton Spring Scale.
2. For each of the masses
listed in the data table, suspend the mass from the spring scale and determine
the Force of gravity acting on the object (i.e. the weight of the object).
3. Record the force of weight
in the data table.
4. Plot a graph of Weight vs.
Mass. Calculate the slope.
1. Define Mass.
2. Define Weight.
3. Briefly explain the
difference between Mass and Weight.
4. Write a Graphical Analysis
for this graph.
