"Rebirth" - Chapter 3 Looking closer in the room, it became clear that it wasn't just ONE of the pieces that was wiggling as if it was alive... in fact, every fragment of Tomie's poor mutilated body were now wiggling and crawling about with lives of their own - it was truly a horrendous sight to behold. And they began to grow ever so slowly. A pair of arms and legs became visible on every piece of flesh with each growth. Then came fingers and toes. Other parts of the human body slowly became visible with every passing second - hips, thighs, stomach, breasts, neck, and... a head. Strands of hair grew out on top, and a face slowly but surely began to form. And perhaps the most chilling and shocking thing of all was the face... it was that of Tomie's. Soon after, many different but identical Tomie's grew from the original's mutilated flesh. The bloody wounds on the original's flesh were quickly healed, and they all began to grow into human sizes. Sanjiyan watched with a hesistant look on her face. She had sent Fei-Oh to take Yakumo home just a few minutes ago when she noticed that the pieces of Tomie were growing and regenerating. That was part of the demon's power; she was a master of rebirth, and each time she dies without her body being completely obliterated, she'll grow from whatever piece of herself that was left behind. It wasn't long before Sanjiyan found herself to be surrounded by eight separate naked Tomie's - all of whom were exactly identical to each other. 'So she mutiplied again...', Sanjiyan thought with an irritated expression on her face. At that point, all eight of the Tomie's turned to their new play thing - the almighty Sanjiyan herself. Each of them smiled sadisticly and surrounded themselves around her. "Well, well, what do we have here?" one of the Tomie's snickered as she took a good look at Sanjiyan. Then suddenly, her tone of voice grew deep, full of jealousy, resentment, and hate. "You must be Fujii-kun's girlfriend." "She looks soooo tough, doesn't she?" another commented in a mocking, sarcastic tone of voice; it was obvious as day that they didn't see Sanjiyan as a threat - a sign that angered the pride driven Sanjiyan. "So what should we do with her?" a third Tomie asked as she walked closer towards Sanjiyan. Sanjiyan's irritated look became more serious - and with good reason. All the other Tomie's had followed this one's lead and were beginning to slowly walk closer to her. "Maybe if we get rid of her, we'll take her place and become Fujii-kun's new girlfriends." yet one more suggested with a dark tone in her voice as she moved foward. Sanjiyan watched each of them carefully and her mind raced. What should she do?! What COULD she do?! She had heard all about the demon, but had never personally encountered one herself - much less eight of them. Her normal spell blasts would work, sure, but how long would it hold them down? And if she wasn't careful with the blast, she could inadvertently bring a few more Tomie's into the world - something that definitely wasn't needed, given the large number of existing Tomie's already. But she had better think of something fast and now - the Tomie's were getting closer and closer. One took a grab for Sanjiyan's throat - but Sanjiyan saw her a mile away and gave her a punch to the face, knocking the Tomie down to the floor. Another tried the same thing, and got a kick to the stomach for her efforts. However, as much as Sanjiyan tried to hold them back, there were just too many of them. Add in the fact that she wasn't really an expert in physical fights, and it became clear that she was outmatched... ...and each Tomie knew of that. Somehow, they knew. "What's wrong? And you looked so tough." a Tomie commented as she grasped for Sanjiyan's throat as the others held her down. She grabbed her neck and choked her - all the while snickering sadisticly. Sweat began to pour on Sanjiyan's head as she coughed for her life. If she didn't do something here and now, she was going surely going to die - and for Yakumo's and Pai's sake, she had better not. "Ugh..." she groaned as she prepared to use her blasting spell with a free hand. "You were never meant for Fujii-kun," the same Tomie said, jealousy plain as day in her voice. She glared at her and grasped Sanjiyan's neck tighter, making the Sanjiyan Unkara cry in pain. "Arrgghh!" "Come on, finish her off. Fujii-kun is waiting." Tomie's jealousy grew even darker as she put another hand on Sanjiyan's throat, thus causing the pain to be doubled. The other Tomie's all followed this one's action, and all of them reached out and grabbed Sanjiyan's throat. It seems they all wanted to be a part of Sanjiyan's dismise. But Sanjiyan had other plans in mind, and all these Tomie's were getting in the way. With practically all of them grabbing for her throat, they did not pay any attention to Sanjiyan's free hand... this led the way for her to use her spell. Extending her index and pinky fingers while folding back her middle and ring fingers, Sanjiyan rapidly produced a giant blasting spell! "EAT THIS!!!" A powerful destructive force expelled from Sanjiyan's hand, strong enough to knock every single Tomie's away from her and flying into the air. Half of them were knocked out of Black House's windows and down to the cold ground below - probably to their deaths; the rest were scattered all around the room. One smashed into the wall and died instantly, vomiting blood from her mouth. Another crashed onto the bed, breaking it in two due to Sanjiyan's spell power backing her up. She died instantly as well. As for the Tomie that attempted to choke Sanjiyan to death - due to the fact that she was too close when the spell was unleashed, her entire body was obliterated from the power... except for one of her hand, of which was still clutching onto Sanjiyan's neck tightly. Sanjiyan pulled it off and did a tiny spell blast at it, blowing it up into tiny specks of debris. Smoke raised from the blast. She turned to the two other Tomie corpses in the room, then produced the same blasts to the corpses - making sure that there was nothing left for them to regenerate from. With three Tomie's taken cared of, Sanjiyan checked outside for the rest of the Tomie's. She looked out from the holes on the wall and into the ground below. One Tomie was lying on the cold hard ground on her back - a rapidly growing pool of blood can be seen growing from under her. Another was painfully impaled severly onto the house's gates. Shape metal stuck out of her face, chest, stomach, and lower abdomen in a straight line. Blood was seen dripping down the dark metal spears - it was truly a horrific sight to behold. Yet another Tomie hung lifelessly on a tree branch, not moving at all. Finally, there was one more in sight with her head smashed open... blood, pieces of skull, and what appeared to be her brain was spread all over the pavement. It was apparent that she had landed on her head and was killed instantly. However, as much as they might appear to be dead, Sanjiyan knew very well that nothing was what it appeared to be. If she doesn't clean up after herself now, she knew that they will all reborn into new Tomie's soon. Using her blast spell again, she pointed at each corpse and completely turned them into dust. Suddenly, Sanjiyan realized something. She had just used the spell seven times... but weren't there eight separate Tomie's?? Yes, definitely... Sanjiyan growled as she glared into the ground. Where did this last Tomie escape to?? She couldn't have been too far away. Plus, from what Sanjiyan had learned about Tomie, she was just like any other humans with the exception of her rebirth abilities. So even if she did run off somewhere, she probably wouldn't survive from the cold... ...but even if Tomie DOES die from the cold, another will just reborn from her corpse, wouldn't it? Summoning the staff in which her pet Takuhi was in, Sanjiyan opened the bird shaped top of the staff and released the tiny man-faced bird into the air. "Takuhi, we have to go find Tomie!" she instructed, and the tiny bird transformed its compact size from being as small as a hand to about a huge as a house. Sanjiyan quickly jumped on, and Takuhi soared into the air. * * * 6:00 PM. Yakumo jerked out of the bed and crashed onto the floor. His entire body was covered with sweat. He sat on the floor and wiped the sweat off his face as he thought about the vivid nightmare he just had... he recalled Ling-Ling sending him off to the infamous Black House, and meeting this strange, mysterious girl named Tomie. And then he remembered one especially horrendous scene where the girl was killed by a strange rodent-like monster. She was slaughtered into pieces, and that horrified look on her face... dear God. Good thing it was all only a dream... or was it? At that point, Fujii pulled himself off the ground and took a glance at the clock. It was already 1 o'clock in the afternoon - that means he's late for work! Yakumo panicked and quickly ran to the closet to change. He took off the shirt he was wearing, and gasped in shock when he realized there were blood stains on it! "No way..." Yakumo exclaimed as he examined the shirt. In the dream, he recalled his back being slashed open by that rodent-like monster, and -- sure enough, there were three claw marks torn into his shirt... just like what happened to him in the dream. Yakumo's eyes widen in fear when he realized something even worse. "I-if this is real, then... then that means... T-Tomie... oh... oh no..." There was only one way to find out -- he had to go back to the mansion. At once, Yakumo put on his black sweatshirt and his fighting gloves with the bars on it. He also worn a fresh pair of jeans, and tied a new bandana on his forehead. After doning on his "Demon Exterminating" outfit, Yakumo quickly ran to the front door... ...until he heard something in the kitchen. He paused and listened closely. It sounded like footsteps walking back and forth. The refridgerator opening, and then closing. And then came the chopping sounds. The sound of a knife chopping intently on vegetables. 'Someone's preparing something in the kitchen,' Yakumo concluded as continued to listen. Pai? No way... Pai wasn't exactly the cooking type; all she ever does is eat. Sanjiyan? When was the last time he saw her cook a meal? Besides, neither Pai nor Sanjiyan would be at home... not if the dream was really real. But then who was that in the kitchen?? Yakumo walked to the kitchen in a steady pace; there was a look of curiousity mixed with confusion on his face. When he made his way to the kitchen doorway, he couldn't believe what he saw - that long, silky black hair... the unmistakeable shape of her body, dressed up in what appeared to be a black t-shirt and red skirt... no, there was no doubt in his mind that the woman in front of him was... her. Yakumo's eyes could only widen in shock and surprise. "Oh, you're up." Tomie said as she turned around from the chopping board. There was an eerie calm to her voice, a sort of monotone that matched her expression. In her hand held a butcher knife, dirty with pieces of vegetable that she had chopped up. Yakumo could only stare at her in shock. How was she alive -- if this was real at all?! Suddenly, pulling a 180 turn, Tomie dropped the butcher knife and embraced Fujii full force. CLING! was the sound of the knife hitting the ground. Yakumo stay had a clueless look on his face. "Oh, Fujii-kun! I thought you were going to die for sure! You were poisoned badly and in really bad shape!" Tomie cried as she held onto the Wu with all her might. "You really had me worried!" Yakumo pulled her away and took a good look at her. Sure enough, this was the same Tomie he had met earlier the day... and this only puzzled him even more. He was 100% sure that she was killed by whatever that monster was back in Black House. That blood stained shirt was proof enough. Could Tomie be a Wu? Yakumo glanced at her forehead, yet the sign of void was nowhere to be found. "W-what's wrong, Fujii-kun?" Tomie asked with a look of worry on her face. Yakumo let her go and scratched his head in confusion. "Y-You're supposed to be dead!" Yakumo shouted as confusion overtook him. Tomie was pulled aback. A look of shock and.. betrayal?... reflected in her eyes. Yakumo's face softened as he realized what he just said -- even if it was the only thing that made sense. "I-I'm sorry." the Wu muttered, scratching his head as he tried to make sense of what was going on. "I-it's just that everything is... well... I'm just so..." However, Tomie remained silent. Her eyes were no longer visible, hidden beneath her dark bangs. Yakumo looked up at her for a second as he continued to explained, and suddenly he felt a large wave of youki attacking his senses. Just then, an ominous shadow appeared behind Tomie. Yakumo took a few a step back, a bewildered look on his face. * * *
