"Rebirth" - Chapter 1 The morning was bright and colorful in Hong Kong, especially the office of the infamous ghost and demon magazine publishing company, "Yougekisha". The editor of the magazine, Lee Ling-Ling, yawned as she sat in front of the computer looking up websites on weird things - things like the Ouiji boards, ghost sightings, the usual. Her magazine was kinda running out of things to cover, so some research was long overdue. Just then, the main door opened, and in came one of the employees of Yougekisha. He was the one and only Yakumo Fujii, famous for his monster extermination skills, and perhaps the man that put Yougekisha back on the map. Ling-Ling looked up when he walked in and motioned for him to come close. "What is it, Ling-Ling-san?" he asked as he walked over, taking off his jacket. His boss only pointed at the website she was viewing in response. Yakumo took a glance, and the picture caught his eye. "Isn't this...?" "Yeah," she responded, which was accompanied with a nod. "So you know about the murders and stuff in Black House, right?" Yakumo nodded. He had heard about it when he was just a high school kid hanging out with his gang of friends, since they liked to share past time stories and all. But that was a long time ago, and certain things happened to change that. Still, he recalled how one of the residents of the home had his arms chopped off... Ling-Ling reached down and opened the desk drawers. She took out a pair of keys and a shiny silver camera and handed them to an unsuspecting Yakumo. He looked at her with confusion as he was handed the items. "Umm, what are these for, Ling-Ling-san?" "The keys are for the van, and the camera is for taking pictures, obviously." she replied matter -of-factly. Yakumo still looked at her witth confusion. "You're going to Black House to take some pictures!" "W-what!?" Yakumo's mouth dropped wide open. "You're gonna go do some exploring and give me information so I can write an article. That IS what I'm paying you for, isn't it?" Ling-Ling said, shrugging her shoulders. Yakumo had a look of dread on his face as he placed the keys inside his pocket. "But I just took off my jacket!" he whined. His boss only responded by handing him that jacket back. Fujii sighed and took his clothes back. 'Why me?' he thought, with a ^_^;; expression. "Remember to get some good pictures!" Ling-Ling said just as Yakumo walked out the door with an unpleasant look on his face. As the door closed, she turned back to her computer screen and resumed her web searching. * * * Yakumo sighed as he climbed into the dark blue "Yougekisha" truck. Taking a rest on the driver's seat, he took a sip of his coffee. Finally, he got to sit down after walking all morning. He took a few minutes to collect his thoughts. Black House, Black House... hmm, the stories that Shigeru and Monkey used to tell in high school were really something - dismemberment, rape, murder... you name it, they told it. Yakumo chuckled as he remembered how Natsuko used to get all worked up over the stories. "Stop it," she'd say, and those two clowns would take the tales to the next level. Taking another sip, he thought about how all the male bodies all had grins on their faces. He had noticed this pattern when he first heard of the tales, but never really cared about it much. Well, now that this whole thing was his assignment, he can't help but take a deep thought - one have to admit that it was rather disturbing to see them grinning after what had happened. What could be the reason behind it? Putting the keys in the engine, Yakumo started up the car and began to drive. Black House was in an abandoned part of the community neighborhood not too far from the districts of Hong Kong. As he drove down the road, he noticed a particularly dark area of the street. He also saw a couple of goons surounding themselves on a young lady - and it became obvious that they were picking on her. "Come on, baby." one of the thugs said as he placed his hand on her shoulder. "We're gonna have some fun today." another nodded as he grabbed her arm. However, strange thing is, the girl seemed uncaring of her situation; the expression on her face appeared indifferent to the threats in front of her. Obviously, seeing two disgusting goons picking on a weak, innocent girl didn't sit well with Yakumo. Being a kind hearted soul, Yakumo stopped the car and confronted them. "Hey, let her go!" The two goons turned around to face a stern looking Fujii. They snickered at his small, student -like size. Both of them focused their atttention to him, and their massive built towered over Yakumo. "You've got some guts, kid." one of them said, cracking his knuckles. "Get the hell out of here now, or else we'll have to crack your little head." However intimidating that was, Yakumo wasn't at the least bit afraid. His face was still serious, and remained in front of the two - it was as if he was challenging them to follow up their threats. The two goons growled. The damn kid! They both threw a punch at the same time, aiming for Yakumo Fujii's face. Having trained with martial artists for 4 straight years in a role, Yakumo easily dodged the assaults. He ducked under and did a leg sweep to the first dug, tripping him to the ground. The second thug threw a punch and aimed for the back of Yakumo's head from behind, but Fujii was way ahead of him. He quickly turned around and did an uppercut to the thug's chin, knocking the big man down to the snowy ground. That hit rendered him unconscious. The first thug watched and glowered. He pulled out a small knife from his back pocket and took a swipe at Yakumo - it was obvious that the fool still didn't know who he was messing with. Yakumo took a few steps back, dodging the sharp object from making contact with his flesh. Then, with speed faster than the eye can see, he grabbed the thug's knife holding arm, twisted it, and hit a straight punch to the man's stomach. The thug dropped the knife and fell on his knees, grasping his stomach in pain. With both thugs down, Yakumo went to check on the young girl they were picking on. Having taken a closer look, he could tell that she was Japanese, just like himself. There was also something he could sense from her... an uneasy presense? There was a familiar demonic energy emitting from her, and yet at the same time it was nothing like what Yakumo had felt before. No, she couldn't be a demon - but then what was this he was feeling from her? "You're quite the fighter," the girl commented calmly, taking a glance at the two fallen thugs. "Eh? Oh, it was nothing." Yakumo replied, scratching his head nervously. He took another look at her. "Are you alright?" A strange smirk found its way on the girl's face as she looked up and glazed into Yakumo's eyes. "Oh, I'm fine. Those two couldn't have touched me even if they tried." "Well, if you say so." he nodded as he continued to scratch his head nervously. For the first time, he noticed how truly breath-taking the girl looked. From her shiny, black waist length hair, to her pretty face... wait, why was he thinking this way...? Fujii shook his head to clear it, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a business card. He handed it to her, and bowed courteously. "Here, this is my business card. My name is Yakumo Fujii, if you need anything, you can find me at Yougekisha." "Yakumo Fujii..." the girl silently murmured as if she was hypnotized. She looked down at the card, her gaze fixated on it. 'Odd girl,' Yakumo thought as he saw her stare at the card for seemingly an eternity. At that point, he decided that it was time to get back to work. The two thugs were disabled, and he was sure that they wouldn't dare to pick on her again. Waving goodbye, Fuji walked back to his van. "So you're Yakumo Fujii..." the girl murmured again, this time looking up from the card and staring at Yakumo's back. A disturbingly evil grin slowly found its way on her face... * * *
