Chapter Twenty Four:


Radio: Now all those simple things are simply too complicated for my life ... How'd I get so 
faithful to my freedom? ... A selfish kind of life ... When all I ever wanted was the simple 
things, a simple kind of life ...

Previously ...

Yakumo (points at Flaming Shiva): You see that?! Sanjiyan and I have to stop him somehow, 
but what?!

Mutsumi (looks at Flaming Shiva): Oh my ... maybe he wants a watermelon to cool off?

Suddenly, the watermelon slipped from her hand and somehow started flying in the air! It 
went straight for Shiva, and the poor guy never saw it coming. The melon smacked him 
right on the left side of his head, knocking him out instantly. Upon becoming unconscious, 
the spell he had activated was cancelled out.

Yakumo and Sanjiyan's mouths dropped. Mutsumi placed a hand on her mouth. Oh my ... ^^;;

Sanjiyan (O_O;;;;;): HOW DID YOU DO THAT??!!

Mutsumi (blushes ^^;;;): Oh my ...

Yakumo (thinking ^_^;;;): This ... this girl is something ...

Downstairs at the first floor, our friends that were playing poker had heard the rumbles 
from the rooftop, and were now curious. So Haan called off the poker games for now (keeping 
Benares' debts recorded, of course) and they all went up to investigate.

Benares hesitated at first, since he knew full well what the reason behind the rumblings 
were, but he had to follow the good buys. Why? Simply because Haan had threatened to tell 
the world that the great Benares owed a mere Magic Merchant like himself hundreds of dollars 
from a poker game. So in order to keep his reputation and dignity, he had to do what Haan 
said until all debts were paid.

And thus this led to our current situation. Everytime there was a strange rumbling, Benares 
would become nervous and lose his hand in the game. So Haan became suspicious and thought 
he would go check it out. As expected, Benares objected without giving a valid reason. Haan 
got a kick outta making Shiva's Wu squirt, so he came up with the idea of checking the roof 
top.

As Haan, Yohko, Ushasu, and Benares climbed the staircase, they ran into Neko-chan, who was 
walking down the steps at the 3rd floor.

Neko-chan (!): Whoa, what's with this gathering?

Yohko (?): What are you doing here, Neko-chan?

Neko-chan (shrugs): Heh, no reason really. I just finished torturing that idiot Sanjihaan.

Haan (!?): Eh!?

Everyone had an expression of horror on their faces. Did she just said she had just finished 
torturing Sanjihaan?? Uh-oh ... Neko-chan was a ninja swordswoman, so it was almost virtually 
guaranteed that her tortures wouldn't be any thrill rides. Yohko shruddered. Truth be told, 
even though he might be an idiot, Sanjihaan DID look almost exactly like Haan. And because of 
that, she would absolutely had to see him suffering such a cruel fate ...

Yohko (...): You ... you didn't do anything too extreme, did you??

Neko-chan (smirks): Nah ... I figured your Sanjiyan Unkara friend beat him up badly enough.

Yohko (O_O): Seima-sama ... beat ... Sanjihaan ... up? ... Oooh, boy ...

Haan, on the other hand, could really careless about Sanjihaan. Because that idiot looked 
like a mirror reflection of himself, wherever he went, he was sure to act like an idiot -- 
and in turn, harm Haan's reputation as a good clean Magic Merchant. And besides, he never 
did liked the idea of having a double running around somewhere.

Haan (snickers): Heh heh, I'm sure he deserved whatever treatment Sanjiyan gave him.

Neko-chan raised her eyebrow at Haan in surprise. For a guy who looked exactly like that 
fool, he sure didn't act like him. In fact, she could sense some hostility towards the guy. 
That was a good thing, she supposed, as who knew what would happen if there were two 
Sanjihaan's running around the place??

Neko-chan (smirks at Haan): You know, for a guy who looks like a replica of that fool, you 
sure act different.

Haan (shrugs): Of course I do. I'm not a fool, after all.

Neko-chan (shrugs): Whatever you say.

Ushasu (...): Umm, shall we continue up?

Haan (nods): Of course! You coming with us, uhh ... I never did get your name?

Neko-chan (shakes head): Neko-chan, and no ... I've seen enough of upstairs. I gotta get 
back to my duty of protecting Latori.

With that, Neko-chan waved goodbye to the heroes and departed back to Latori's room. The 
good guys all resumed their way up the stairs. Benares lagged behind. He had his head down 
and pouted. Damn it, damn it all! His mission was failing miserably, and who knew what 
Kaiyanwang-sama would do to punish him when he found out.

The watermelon was split in many pieces as it hit the floor. Shiva was lying down next to 
it, also unconscious. His fiery forms had disappeared and he was back to normal. Mutsumi 
walked over to them and ... picked up pieces of the watermelon.

Mutsumi (^^): Watermelon, anyone?

Yakumo (raises eyebrow): You're serving watermelon at a time like this?!

Mutsumi (notices Shiva and places hand on mouth): Oh my, what happened to him?

Sanjiyan (O_O;;): You knocked him out!

Mutsumi (jovial smile): Ara? Oops.

By now, Sanjihaan had come to and he looked at the mess. He was still too badly injured to 
have the energy to pull himself up. The guy noticed the unconscious Shiva and his eyes 
widen in shock, surprise, and stun, naturally.

Sanjihaan (O_O): W-what the hell happened here?!

Yakumo (points at Mutsumi): She did it ...

Sanjihaan looked at the direction Yakumo was pointing ... at Mutsumi? MUTSUMI?!?! Did he 
just say she was the cause of what happened with Shiva?? Maybe Yakumo was talking about 
Sanjiyan and didn't point right. Except Sanjiyan was right next to her Wu, on the exact 
opposite direction of where he was pointing.

Sanjihaan (gasps): You ... you're telling me ... Mutsumi ... Mutsumi defeated Kaiyanwang?!

Suddenly, Sanjiyan smirked. Heh, it was rather funny, to tell you the truth. There was 
Kaiyan, one of the most feared people in the entire Universe ... and there was Mutsumi, a 
seemingly innocent woman with absolutely no special powers of any kind. Heh. Heh heh heh.

Sanjiyan (laughs): Hehe, if you put it that way ... Kaiyanwang was just beaten by a girl!

Mutsumi (blushes ^^;;): Oh my ...

Yakumo (O_O): Im-impossible ...

But it was! The once almighty, fearful, and intimidating Kaiyanwang was beaten by a mere 
mortal woman. A woman who, unlike Sanjiyan, Latori, or Ushasu, was as oridinary as you 
and me. It was irony as its best.

At that point, the rooftop door slammed open. Haan, Yohko, Ushasu, and Benares walked out 
to Yakumo and Sanjiyan's surprise.

Yakumo (!): What are you guys doing up here??

Haan (=_=): What do you think, Fujii?! With all that noise you idiots were making, who 
wouldn't come up and check??

Haan (looks around): Well well! I see you made quite a mess up here! And ... hey, wait a 
second, what is Kaiyanwang doing asleep in the background?!?!?!

Upon mentioning the name of his fallen master, Benares took a look and behold! He was in 
a state of shock to see his powerful master on the floor and not moving! In a speed of 
light, he zoomed to the Sanjiyan Unkara and checked on him. Whew ... still alive, but 
knocked out.

Benares was confused. Why and how was Kaiyanwang-sama unconscious?! Wasn't he in the 
process of gaining Parvati and Sanjihaan's powers?? They should've been in the middle of 
the ceremony by now ... which was what Benares had expected to walk into when he followed 
the goodie-goodies upstairs. This didn't make any sense.

Wait ... what if this was a setup by Kaiyanwang-sama? Perhaps he had sensed that Benares 
had failed in his mission to prevent the good guys from interfering, and was pretending 
to be unconscious! But then that didn't explain why Parvati was back to her old self, nor 
did it explain why Sanjihaan was beaten up. Still ...

Benares (whispers to Shiva): Kaiyanwang-sama! Is this a trick?

Of course, Shiva didn't reply. He didn't even budge or make a sound. Benares scratched 
his head in confusion. Benares didn't believe that what he saw was real. There was just no 
way that Kaiyanwang-sama would be defeated like this.

Benares (whispers again): Kaiyanwang-sama! It's me, Benares! I'm here now, so you don't 
have to pretend any more!

Sanjiyan overheard that whisper and couldn't help but grin wider. Having seen everything, 
she knew exactly what had happened ... and decided to brag.

Sanjiyan (smirks): Benares, give up. Your precious Kaiyan has been, in fact, defeated.

Benares (glares): Impossible!

Sanjiyan (snickers): But it's true. I'll even tell you who beat him!

Yakumo (^_^;;): Sanjiyan, maybe you shouldn't ...

Benares (raises fists): Tell me, Parvati! Is your Wu responsible? If so, then I'll kill 
him right here and now!

Sanjiyan (girns): Yakumo? Hah, don't make me laugh. He may be powerful, but even I'll 
admit that there's no way in hell he could beat Kaiyan. The person who did it is ...

Benares watched Sanjiyan's hand in anticipation as she slowly pointed to the culprit. He 
saw she move from Yakumo ... to Sanjihaan?!?! Impossible! That fool is even weaker than 
some of the lower demons! ... wait, her hand didn't stop at him. However, Benares noticed 
that it was pointing towards some girl that he had never seen before until now ... and it 
stopped there!

Benares (eyes widen): WHAT!?

Sanjiyan (snickers): Heh heh ... that's right, it was her! She was the one that knocked 
out Kaiyan!

Mutsumi (^^): Ara?

Benares (O_O): Im-impossible! She's just an oridinary human!

Hell, not only was Benares in shock, but Haan, Yohko, and Ushasu as well! They had been 
paying attention, and was just as surprised as ol' Benny was. Haan checked Sanjiyan's 
expression, and she looked serious. She wasn't the type to make jokes, so what she was 
saying HAD to be true. Wow ... who would've thought an oridinary girl like that could ...

Yohko was the same. She turned to Ushasu, who also had a look of disbelief. She looked at 
Mutsumi, who was eating a piece of watermelon. Yohko couldn't sense any youki from her ... 
maybe she used some sort of powerful charms or a spell like the Taoists? No, can't be. She 
didn't look like the type to be using charms or anything like that.

At that point, Sanjihaan had finally gathered enough strength to pull himself up. He had a 
smirk on his face. Haan, Yohko, Sanjiyan, and Yakumo turned to him. Benares and Ushasu 
were still fixated on Mutsumi.

Sanjihaan (smirks): You know, now that I think about it ... Mutsumi beating Shiva isn't 
really anything to be shocked about. If I remember correctly, she was sent here by Mr. K 
himself!

Gasp! Everyone gasped in shock. Well well, that explained it! Haan rubbed his chin as he 
placed the pieces together ... so THAT'S why she could defeat Kaiyanwang. Yohko nodded as 
she realized how much sense it made now. Yakumo and Sanjiyan folded their arms and thought 
about it. A little smirk found its way to Benares' face. He was worried that Mutsumi might 
have been the little "balance of power" that the good guys needed to get an edge. Ushasu 
smirked as well.

But still ... Mutsumi being sent by Mr. K was no little thing. She could easily request or 
do things that will get in Benares and Kaiyanwang's way, and that's obviously a bad thing. 
Benares studied Mutsumi some more. She stuffed another piece of watermelon in her mouth 
and still had that happy-go-lucky smile on her face. Ehhh ... perhaps Benares was just 
exaggerating.

Benares picked Shiva off the floor and placed him on his shoulders. Since there was really 
nothing to worry about, he might as well hurry up and treat Kaiyanwang-sama back to health. 
As he walked to the doorway and down the steps, Ushasu noticed and offered to help out. It 
was her son that was hurt, after all.

Yakumo and Sanjiyan also walked down the stairs. They figured that it was time for them to 
go back home. Shiva probably won't be causing any more trouble soon after this, and there 
really was nothing for Yakumo or Sanjiyan to do in Satan City, so they might as well head 
on home first thing tomorrow morning.

Haan and Yohko followed them after. They were getting tired, so they decided that they were 
going to retire for the night. And just like Yakumo and Sanjiyan, they really had no more 
business staying in Satan City, so they also chose to go back home in the morning.

That left with Sanjihaan. Sanjihaan had no place to go, really. If he stayed here in Satan 
City, who knows what Neko-chan would do to him. But if he followed the others back home, 
then with Haan and Parvati around, he was sure that he wouldn't be happy for very long. So 
there was only one option left for Sanjihaan -- he was going to explore the world on his 
own.

As Sanjihaan walked slowly down the stairs, he heard footsteps behind him. He turned around 
to find Mutsumi looking at him with her trademark smile. Sanjihaan raised his eyebrow.

Sanjihaan (raises eyebrow): ......

Mutsumi (^^): Sanjihaan-san, where will you go now?

Sanjihaan (shrugs): I dunno. Probably explore the world or something.

Mutsumi (places hand on mouth): Ara? Where exactly?

Sanjihaan (raises eyebrow): Umm ... why?

Mutsumi (blushes and places hand together): Oh, because Sanjihaan-san is very fascinating. 
I think I'd like travel with you.

Sanjihaan (!): Ehhh!?!?

Mutsumi (blushes ^^;;): Oh my.

Sanjihaan took a step back and thought about this. Mutsumi Otohime traveling with him?? He 
wasn't sure if he'd like that. Sure, her connection with Mr. K might come in handy in times 
of need, but ... wait a minute. Mutsumi was asking Sanjihaan if she could come with him? 
SHE was asking HIM? Sanjihaan had just suddenly realized that this was the first time in 
his life that a woman -- a beautiful woman -- had asked to accompany him instead of the 
other way around. That was enough for Sanjihaan to say yes.

Sanjihaan (studders): Umm ... uhh ... y-yeah, sure! I-I don't see w-why not! C-come on! We 
can go now!

And with that said, Sanjihaan grabbed Mutsumi's hand and jumped down the stairway. He 
zoomed down the staircase, made it to the first floor, and charged out of the main lobby.
