Starting Lineup
110-44 (.714)
Facing a powerful Pittsburg club the Yankees' pitching staff shut down the Pirates to close out the season with a convincing sweep.  The Pirates led the NL with a .305 team batting average and actually out-hit the fearsome Yankee lineup in the first game.  Two Pirate errors in the early innings gave the Yankees a 4-1 lead.  The Pirates clawed back to make the score 5-4 in the eighth but Moore came in and retired 5 of the last 6 batters.  The Pirates made another pair of errors in the 2nd game as George Pipgras held on for a 6-1 win.  In Game 3, Herb Pennock took a perfect game into the 8th inning and the Yankees won easily 8-1.  Moore returned his relief appearance in Game 1 and went the distance in the 4th game allowing just one earned run.  The Pirates tied the game at three in the 7th but with two outs in the ninth the Yankees scored the series ender on a Johnny Miljus Wild Pitch.
