Elizabeth doesn't want to get attached to the dog because it is not hers or her family's. They are raising it for [?]. It is going to be a sight dog for the blind. Elizabeth has started a new school year and has a get acquainted to go to. She borrows a purple shirt from her sister and gets ready for her dance. Immediately, the arrival of this new dog upsets Elizabeth's life by jumping into the with her and getting her clothes wet. The chapter ends with Elizabeth stating that it would be easy not to Beauty.
