We are now just a few days away from a very well deserved vacation. Our last project of the year will consist in making a tourist guide to be shared with students from all over the planet.
Objectives:
+ Students will choose a destination for which they will gather information.
+ Students will determine what information can be pertinent to teenage tourists.
+ Students will make a tourist guide of the region they have chosen.
+ Students will include internet links that lead to their destination.
+ They will exchange work with other participating classes.
In a brainstorming session, ask your students where they will spend their summer vacation.
Write answers on the board.
Students who will travel should prepare a tourist guide from the place they will be visiting.
Students who will stay in their home region should prepare a tourist guide from that region.
Ask your students what they think should be included in a well designed tourist guide and write their answers on the chalkboard.
They will probably find some of the following:
- History of destination
- Geography of destination
- Weather information
- Maps
- Public transportation information
- Currency and language spoken
- Attractions to be visited
- Accomodation-lodging
- Food
- Pictures
- Internet links
- Any special information that can be useful to the tourist
Since many students spend their vacation in their home region, the local tourist guide can be done in teams, every teams being responsible for one or two aspects mentioned above.
The foreign guides should be added to the local one to make one big travel guide for the class.
Copies should be made and sent to participating schools via snail mail.
Since this is the last project of the year and we all have to prepare for exams, I think each teacher would know best how to evaluate this according to percentage available in the report card.
You might even want to include an oral activity to this project, students presenting the different destinations in the class travel guide. That's about it!
We enjoyed working with you this year. Thank you very much for participating with us.
Have a safe and fun summer vacation. We all deserve it! :-)
