Here's how it works:
Part A: The pool:
Have your students pick the first six drivers to finish each race and post your predictions, using the form below.
After each race, tally the results, giving the same number of points the drivers score in the Championship, to students who pick the correct driver, finishing in the CORRECT position.
Give ONE bonus point for every pick finishing in the top six but NOT in the predicted position.
Have students make a graph showing everybody's progression and post it in the class.
Have students make a comparative graph using the average score of all participating classes.
Contact your "local" Grand Prix organization and ask them to promote your project by sending you material that you can distribute to your students as prizes. We received one official programme and five posters from the Air Canada GP, 6 posters from the British GP and a media kit (including an official program) from the European GP.
On behalf of my students, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the marketing directors of these Grand Prix events, who took interest in this school project.
Part B: The F1 Magazine: (requesting school participation from all GP cities or countries and other cities hosting a car racing event).
* Divide your class into four research teams that will be gathering information on your local race: history, statistics, organization, financial
*As a homework, have your students find one English text according to their team's choice. Have them read it, underline the keywords and circle the words they don't understand.
*In class, go over the homework with your students. List the main ideas on the board and vocabulary. Have students take notes.
*Ask them to write one page for the magazine (including pictures or drawings). Ask them not to forget to include the source of the pictures and the text they have read.
-The history team go back to the start of their national GP and highlight it's past.
-The stats team works in collaboration with the history team to interpret the numbers. They are also responsible for the pool, tallying the results and making graphs
-The tech team gives you information on the track and what to do if you're a tourist and want to attend the Grand Prix.
-The financial team will be in charge of the $$$ aspect. Job creation, sponsors, financial benefits to the city, tourism.....(work with tech team)
* We exchange copies of our work via snail mail in the form of a magazine, to constitute a worldwide F1 document written by hundreds of students around the globe.
That's about it!
