Bolivia
Coroico & The Most Dangerous Road in the World, Bolivia
Beginning
The infamous road from La Paz to Coroico, Bolivia...The Most Dangerous Road in the World. An average of one person dies PER DAY on this road. It was built by Paruguayan prisoners in the 1930's and remains the only access from La Paz to the Yungas, the highest cocaine producing region in the world! Here is what could have been the last picture I ever took.
Jorinator
Early on, Joris saw his life flash before his eyes when we were cruising down hill very fast and when he hit his front break, the whole front breaking mechanism shot off of his bike completely. Yee-haw!
Whoa
In an intiative to save lives, the Bolivian government decided to turn the road into a "one way" by alternating the direction day by day. Proving too inefficient, the road was opened up again into a two way. Here, two very nervous drivers pass each other.
Steep
It is really really steep, I'm serious!
Donation
Just incase the road wasn't dangerous enough, us Canadians donated a black bear to wander the area. Oh Canada, your international aid is so fitting...
Matt
This part gets a bit sketchy...just to the left of the sign I am pictured. I almost went over the edge here, as I put my foot a little too close to the edge. That trek had me high on adrenelin.
Hold on!
Hitching  a ride to the Hotel Esmeralda in Coroico, Joris and I hang on tight to the roof of the truck while Dennis snaps a close up. Somehow, the value of your life seems so trivial in Bolivia.
Coroico
The view from the Hotel Esmeralda is great. In the foreground lies the town of Coroico and in the background, the Yungas mountains.
Pool
Relaxing by the pool at Esmeralada. I am actually jelous of myself when I look at this picture...oh to be there again!
Esmeralda
What a great resort...we stayed here for a week!
Horseback
We went horseback through the coca, coffee, and banana fields of the Yungas Valley.
Back to South America
French Cuisine
Our last night in Coroico we ventured to a French Restaurant, a nice change from deep-fried cheese dishes.
