Tetris Worlds
By: Mighty Woman
I have always loved the Gameboy game Tetris and I recently purchased a used copy of the Gamecube game Tetris Worlds. I have to tell you that although I like the newer version, I am not a huge fan of it.
In Tetris Worlds you are given the task of saving the Tetris' world by solving puzzles. There are variety of worlds, each of which is Tetris in a different form. In one, it is the traditional Tetris: move the cascading bricks to form collapsing walls; in another, you are required to match colors; and so on. There is an arcade mode, as well as the world mode.
I'm not sure what it is about the game, but it just doesn't thrill me. I enjoy playing, but it gets old fast. On the Gameboy version, I can play for hours. On the Gamecube, it just isn't as exciting. The difference might be in the controls. My fingers are trained to the Gameboy controls. It works a bit differently on the Gamecube -- just differently enough that I make stupid mistakes without meaning to which can completely destroy a hard-earned strategy.
The graphics on the game are really cool. You can outfit your little Tetris buddy in a variety of hats and colors and each world is quite graphically appealing. There are two things I do like about the game. The first is the shadow mode which shows where your piece will land before it gets there. The second is a hold mode which allows you to hold a brick to the side until you can find a better spot for it. Both of these are fun to mess around with.
Overall, I like the game, but I don't love it. It's fun to pull out from time-to-time, but I'd rather play Tetris on the Gameboy Advance any day!
