| Alberta is highly dependant on the energy sector as it accounts for 25% of Alberta's GDP, 33% of the provincial governments revenues, 50% of exports and 1 in 6 jobs. World-wide the Province of Alberta is the 18th largest oil producer, 2nd largest natural gas exporter, and the 4th largest natural gas producer. The provinces oil sales as of 1998 were, 59% to the U.S.A., 25% within Alberta, 15% within the rest of the country, and 1% for offshore purposes. Also as of 1998, the production of natural gas liquids totaled 164.8 million barrels valued at appoximatly 1.8 Billion dollars. Alberta also has a 12% share of the U.S. natural gas market. Alberta holds 54% of Canada's proven reserves of conventional crude oil, 79% of this is natural gas, 46% of its coal, and all of its oil sands.
