Length of schooling: Too much? 12 years in public, plus 10+ years of college

You don't have enough time or CPU to have me tell you about education on the job and life experiences.

How teachers taught: Mostly lecture. Although the final semester of my undergraduate education degree did require student teaching, as did my MS. Best educational experiences: Ones which challenged my thinking and provided not only foundational information, but skills which allowed me to transfer the knowledge into behavior.

Worst educational experiences: I had a professor once who taught by putting the textbook on the podium and reading it to the students.

Job experiences: See attached resume. (You asked for it !!)

Had an adequate education: Yes

Enduring Questions

What is the purpose of education? >> To not only orient younger members of society to its mores, but to provide them with an understanding of the world, and the knowledge and skills to be successful within society, however they operationally define "successful."

Who are schools for? What are my choices? They're for the students, the parents, society and future employers.

What should kids learn? The knowledge and skills -- both educational and social, and perhaps even technical -- necessary to achieve their individual goals and be self-actualized, however they define that.

How should they learn it? A combination of conceptual learning and practical experience. Remembering that a chance to succeed also implies a chance to fail.
