Fred's Revised Fish Weight Calculator

Fish Weight Calculator originally created by Joel Dunn, UNC-Chapel Hill, [email protected], on January 12, 1996. My last modification was on July 25, 2007, updated to refer to Steelhead/Salmon, Halibut, Sturgeon, and Large Mouth Bass.

The algorithm used is W = (L * (G^2))/R, where:

W = Weight in decimal pounds
L = Length in inches (maximum of 240 inches)
G = Girth in inches [maximum of 140 inches (default is .58 * L)] and
   typically for a Large Mouth Bass the girth would be around .75 * L.
R = 775 for a Salmon/Steelhead, 625 for a Halibut, 1075 for a Sturgeon, and 800 for Large Mouth Bass

(Note: The calculations for Salmon/Steelhead have been taken from multiple sources; for Halibut it is an approximation from a study from the International Pacific Halibut Commission, for the Sturgeon it comes from a BC Fraser River White Sturgeon study program, and for the Large Mouth Bass it comes from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.)

Included below are estimated weight tables for Steelhead/Salmon and Sturgeon from calculations off this program that can be printed and cross referenced while out on your favorite stretch of water:
