Notice how I have cleverly put this bomb on the cover of "Scrape" magazine - the spriings are sagging pretty badly but I like it like that, a real lowrider!
It is a hybrid of the re-built drivetrain from our rusted-out '69 GTO HT and the body and chassis from a fairly solid '69 Buick Skylark my wife drove for a few years. This thing is a real beast, and at $1.59 a gallon for gas I think I've gotta get rid of it soon - anybody restoring a GTO in need of a good 350-HP Pontiac 400 and T-H 400 send me an E-mail! Runs great with only 10,000 miles on a professional rebuild on both the engine and tranny.
The Skylark body is very solid - only a little rot around the wheel-wells and bottoms of the front fenders and, oh, yeah, the back bumper is held together by plating! This thing has the original green (yuck) cloth seats and the carpet, headliner, and door panels are in incredible condition. I have just discovered that the wheelbase is the same as the '55 Chevy 150 2-door wagon I have in the back yard, hmmm....
Godzilla has been spared! Not that it going to get driven with gas at over $2/gallon but I discovered that my '74 Olds 4-door also had the same wheelbase as the '55 Chevy wagon and a narrower frame than the Skylark. The Olds got stripped to the chassis and re-deployed as a platform for the '55 wagon. I have sold a couple small parts off Godzilla (steering wheel and a trunk torsion bar) but am keeping it together for the time being. Look for a link to the '55 Chevy Wagon Project on the "Island Taxi Fleet" page soon!
