| The Loading dock (Plant "M") Core plant build date: 1928 Razed: 1991-92 New dock built: 1992 Purpose: Stone loading dock for lake frieghters and barges. History: Was original site of the Roesling quarry wharf. Modern loading dock was built in 1928. Three structures consisted of the new dock. The conveyor gallery, machine house, and concrete loading bins. Stone was hauled to the dock by rail and finished products were dumped into the concrete bins. Gates operated under the bins to charge the main conveyor on the gallery. The stone was then loaded into the hold of a ship by means of a telescoping conveyor on a turntable. In the 1960's truck transport replaced rail when transporting stone to the dock. This was then replaced again by a conveyor belt from a new crushing and processing plant in 1967. The concrete bins were abandon at this time and the machine house was razed. Gallery was replaced in 1991 with a modern conveyor and truss system. Site remains: Old railroad incline leading to the abandon concrete bins. Remains of the old machine house, and gallery are non -existant. |
